Cancer Fund Drive Exceeds Quota American Cancer Society, South Utah County, has reached the in the recent quota assigned fund raising campaign. A check in the amount of $2,284.96 has been sent to headquarters in Salt Lake City. Quota for the area was $2,250, giving more than $44. in excess of the amount assigned. Money will be used in research, public assistance to those suffering with cancer, education of the public in detecting cancer, and in other ways. The group will spend the night in the canyon. Saturdays program will include hiking under the direction of Woodrow Dennett, horseshoe tournament under the direction of Harold Chipman, ball games and other sports. Charla Kay Swanson placed third in individual ratings for bookkeeping at the annual High School Commercial contest held Friday at Brigham Young University. About 150 students from High Schools at Lehi south to Payson participated. Almost all of the officers or their families were present. Places of honor were arranged for the 83 who attended, many coming from out of town for the occasion. Building Bridges for Eternity was the theme chosen for the event, with .Mrs. Clarence Hill as narrator. Ray Anderson, current superintendent of the Young Mens unit, presided. Arrangements were made- by heads of - the unit, including Mr. Ander- son ai.d his counselors, Gordon Hiatt and Floyd Coles; also Mrs. Merlyn Ellsworth, Young Ladies president, and her counselors, Geneva Montague and Shirley Hardman. Harold Harmer, recent Second ward bishop and now member of the stake presidency, read a history of the organization since its beginning in 1892. He named bishops of the ward and varying changes made in the units heading the YLMIA. Mr. Harmer also introduced each officer as named and asked each and their families to stand as they were recognized. 'A group picture was taken as shown above.
