Because of prevailing high prices most Germans have used up their savings and now are selling prized possessions to get funds which will enable them to pay black market prices for food, clothing, coal and other necessities Many of the articles are identifiable as German soldier loot and some of them may be accidentally drifting back to France or Russia in the suitcases of personnel stationed here. Prices are anywhere from 10 to 30 times as high as m peacetim- e- but for foreigners here with cigarets to spare the occupation mark is cheap. American women, including newly arrived wives, are spending much of their spare time rummaging through shops to find house furnishings Those with luck and good taste have found rare items which would bring a high price anywhere Comparatively cheap things such as kitchen utensils, hardware, curtains or napkins are the hardest to find. There is a shortage of all essentials but Berlin is full of luxuries. 1 I lation ,i Rrnsack Stores tor - t SAvgffiey OBITUARY i Stirring Up BsrL Luxury ELISHA WARNER, Editor M.AX R WARNER, Jlu-im Mamumr - Phom Mrs. Emma Wilson, Local Com .spumlt-n- Member Utah State Press Boom Now Ai.s Muiy Elmei Alt Belli, 92, k jident oi Ravioli lor moie U.uii 70 yiui.--, died batuuluv at , !J in at the Home of hei daugh-tcauses I Rom in halt Lake Uiy me idi i.t to age. a e bom in ball Lake oi City , June T, 1354, a daughter llium and Alai yto Huffman Pay sun with bne tame lu i j). uerts .then a small cnild t. hue was mail ltd to William and 1874 24, ALiy m Patsoii tn tne liviu iui many yeuis on tian tar m iruine nurtneast ot Pat.sun and sne later nad a home in ine eitt. Every week thousands are reof British holiday-maker- s manluxuries with home turning ufactured in Britain but not for sale in British stores. The island merchants, being on Englands export list, can secure many items denied the domestic market by the drive to build up foreign exchange. Thus, in the Channel islands, British tourists are able to buy goods that were exported from their own country. This abundance, at prices which seem cheap to Englishmen, accounts for supplies of liquor, cigarets and wearing apparel which many Britons take home with them after the holidays on the islands. On landing in England they must pay import duties on items exceeding a certain value, except for clothes that are worn. Canadian Boys Crossing Border to Join U. S.
