A large group The Purpose of This Issue This issue of the Chronicle was designed to serve two purposes: 1st-- to serve the shoppers of Payson and vicinity with advertising messages from the various merchants about their best buys over the week-en- d and specially priced merchandise for the opening of school next week. The response in this direction has been very liberal by the merchants and readers are asked to study each advertisement carefully. The second purpose is to furnish first hand news about the Sixth annual Golden Onion and Homecoming celebration, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Throughout the paper are stories on the many diversified lines of entertainment featured for the holidays, together with complete programs of the days activities so that residents and visitors will know where to go and what to do. Copies are being placed in every home and we request that they be saved go that the visitors will have access to them. Additional copies will also be placed in the business houses ready for distribution to the crowds coming in. 4 To Provide Big Thrills Two high class shows featuring boxing and wrestling, have been arranged by the Sports Committee for Saturday and Monday evenings. Both shows will be held at the Bon Ton, beginning promptly at 7:30 p. m. The doors will open at 7:00 p. m. and the crowds are urged to be in attendance early so that the shows will be out in time for the dances. Saturday nights card mill be made up entirely of boxing, twenty-eigh- t rounds in all featuring Claire Toll-istru- p, Intermountain Welter Weight champion, and Red Downs of Ogden headliner. The Semiwindup will be a five round bout between Adrian Elton, the well known in his first Southpaw, Bantaquin eomback attempt, and Jack Nash from Salt Lake. Two snappy four round bouts between George Davis, Payson vs. Max Car.-oSalem and Art Kinder, Pay-so- n vs. Woody Sheen, Salem and three 3 round bouts matching up Clarence Yroung vs. Howard Kempt-on- ; Ted Nielson vs. Tommy Wilson; Mat Mansfield vs. Kid Openshaw all local boys will round out the evenings entertainment. Advanced reports from all parts of the state indicate that a huge crowd will' be on hand to enjoy the program of events that has required weeks of work and planning by the various committees. Following the opening rites will be the mammoth parade. It will not be minature but made up entirely of scores of floats, beautiful marching units and some of the states finest bands, including the Provo American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp, Springville concert band, Spanish Fork and Payson Bands. This will be followed with a band concert and reception at Memorial Park. Beginning at 2 p. m. will be the Thoroughbred Race Horse Meet, at the sports field, featuring eight races participated in by 80 running horses from five western states. Other entertainment will be a high class rodeo trick riders and ropers, vaudeville entertainment and bands. A band concert at 5 p. m., boxing carnival at 7:30, dances at Arrowhead Lakeside, special show at Star Theatre and the carnival attractions will complete the days program. Sunday is home coming day and the big community fair at the Junior high scrool will be open all day. Special attractions will be a ball game at 2:30 at the sports field; band concert at 5 p. m. at Memorial Park, Orchestra concert and vocal music on the Tabernacle lawn at 7 p. m. and home coming program in the Tabernns acle at 8 p. m. Monday, Labor Day, will be another big celebration day with a repetition of the great parade headed by the the beautiful Miss Payson float bearing the queen, Miss Lillian Gray and her attendants. The Provo American Legion drum and bugle corp, the state prize winner will be featured and will give a marching demonstration on Main Street at 9 oclock before the parade. After the parade will be the big free melon bust and band concert at Memorial Park. The big racing and sports program will begin at 2 p. m. and at 7:30 a mixed boxing and wrestling countrys outstanding Middleweight carnival. The dances and other specwrestlers.
