Discussed queen contest and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Davis of Payson, 17 year old Junior at the Payson High School , was in the top ten at State Finals last season. Won first place in goat tying. She entered the following events: Barrel racing, pole calf roping, team tying and goat tying bending, break-awa- y, She won all around cowgirl at two qualifying rodeos last year. She belongs to the Utah State Barrel Racing Association and the rifle club. Gay Lynn Davis, some possible changes. Councilman Hansen to work out details on this. Mr. Gary DeLeeur met with council concerning toll free telephone system in county in opposition to the Metropac system being proposed by Telephone Company. Council discussed this matter after having heard from both sides. Council decided it would support the County wide toll free system providing rates were kept as they were mother countieshaving this system. If it would raise rat es too high council would favor the Metropac system. Councilman Lundell reported Wayne Pickering was opening up a Garden store in his building back of Payson Furniture. Southern Utah High School Rodeo will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 27, 28 and 29 at the Spanish Fork arena. Entrees must be enrolled in classes from 9 to 12th grade and the top three are happy to announce the arrival of five new additions to our family. The kids are real We happy about them. I havent decided yet whether I am or not. Who are out new additions? They just happen to be five, colored baby chicks. They have taken up residence in a box up in the corner by our fireplace and are fully equipped with feed, water and a light to keep them comfy warm. They receive a lot of attention and tender loving care from the kids and their only e nemy is our whit e cat who peers over the side of the box and secretly hopes he has a nice chicken dinner some day. So for the time being, the chicks are getting all the attention and the cat has been boosted outdoors. named her Barbara chicken Clarence. Hes orange. Mrs. Joanne Mattinson met with council and thanked council for cooperation received in connection with the Queen contests. Made suggestion of a proposal in the Queen contest. Suggested that Miss Payson would represent Payson and Miss Harvest Queen would reign over the Golden Onion Days celebration. Applications should be signed by both girls entering contest and their parents so all would know rules. Council gave approval on this change. Mayor Riley presented an agreement with Utah County of Fire protection in county areas surrounding Payson. Motion to accept and authorize Mayor Riley to sign agreements made by Councilman Hansen. Friday, March 17 was an especially pleasant day for Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cowan. The occasion being that Mrs. Cowans birthday fell on March 17 and they spent the afternoon in Murray and Salt Lake City. They visited at the home of their son, Frank and Evelyn Cowan and two daughters, and in the early evening they accompanied their grandson Craig Cowan and his wife Roxanne to the Salt Lake Temple to get their endowments. Others going from this area to accompany Craig and Roxanne were Craigs grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford from Gottfredson Springvillle and his uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Gottfredson. After leaving the Temple they all returned to Murray to the Craig Cowan home to join with both his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cowan and her parents and other relatives for a buffet dinner. A special feature of the dinner was a wedding cake decorated with a minature Temple on the top of the cake. Mrs. Florence Spencer from Payson visited at the home of Mrs. Cecil S. Peery Saturday afternoon. She was working on family records. Mrs. Van (Margie) Beckstrom and seven month old baby from American Fork was a house guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Smith from Friday until Sunday. Her husband joined her on Sunday and they attended Sunday School with her parents. Miss Pamela Angus and her frind, Julie both students at Snow College were overnight guests of Pamelas grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elvon Butler Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Elvon Butler returned home Sunday night from a trip to Freemont, California, where they visited with their daughter and Ernadene and Jess Angus and sons, Jim, Kevin and Brian. Patrons may either witness the action or participate by riding the device. Essentially, it is a barrel set on one end. Patrons may either enter the barrel or watch from above it. As it revolves at tremendously high speeds, the cen- trifugal force pins the rider against its side as the floor descends. Four other rides will be added to the amusements at Lagoon this season. They are the the Krazy Kups, the Tumbler and a new Super Roll-Plane. The funway has been extended on both the north and south ends to accommodate these new rides and additional food and games stands have been constructed. The annual Easter Egg hunt will be held on Sunday according to Robert E. Freed, General Manager. Thousands of candy eggs and prizes will be given to youngsters.
