Show - Just One Year Old - Cultus Club GAD A BOUTS Cultus Fielding. Mrs. Helen Backman of the Senior Literary Club at Santa-qui- n reviewed the volume, Its Lord! You and Me, by Allen told of his Gerald Cherry, experiences as a black Mormon. The novel, written in the first person, tells the story of the young black man who was with the Air Force, the depths of despair he went to when imprisoned at the air base and of his reading literature that evenutally led to his baptism into the Mormon church. The book went on to tell of his attendance at Brigham Young University in Provo and tour of the Orient as a comic entertainer with the camet pus group. Mrs. James was chairman and introduced Mrs. Backman and her guest, Mrs. Stella Peterson of Santaquin. Elections were held with Mrs. Faye Fielding named president, Mrs. Gould Dixon vice president Mrs. and president elect, Harold Hawker, secretary and Mrs. Reed Persson, secretary. Refreshments were served by Mrs. W.W. Hansen. who Sherri Lynn Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodger E. Johnson, Payson, Utah, celebrated her one year old birthday on March 19, 1972. Others wishing little Sherri Lynn Happy Birthday were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Johnson and Bishop and Mrs. Ronal Crump, all of Pay- - . son. A piece of Sherris birthday cake was saved for her great grsndmother Mrs. Alpha Balle and her great grandfather Kymberli Riser, daughter of" Scott W. and Jolene Clark Riser, Tonga (South Pacific) was one year old March 10. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. K.W. Clark of Genola and Mr. and Mrs. K.W. Riser of Salt Lake City. - James Crump. Musical program presented by club musical program was presented to the members of the Phi Delta Cultus Club on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Bowers. The program was presented by Mrs. Doree Nichols and accompanied by Margo Patterson. Mrs. Nichols sang a beautiful selection of songs that reminisced from childhood to the present. At the close of the program she had the group join her in singing, God Bless America. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Arnold Beddoes and Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Bowers. A lovely (Le-An- n) Club-colle- Just Woman Talk By June Dickey Exciting day, I went down to Dawnas Clothe Shop and got two pieces of seersucker for new uniforms, they are so pretty I can hardly wait to get home to sew them up. The very first thing David said was, Is that your color?" Yes, I replied, I can wear peach. David retorted, Yeah, What about the white stripe? That isnt pure white, I said, It has a peach cast to it. it only Oh no, said David, looks that way because it is laying on the peach stripes. Much to my dismay I realized he was right so I will just have to put a peach lining under it, durn it! Thats what you get when your family has been color oriented. I dont know about his teachers but, I sure get tired of that kid being right so much of the time. For those of you who have your color analysis take heed, be sure and check your fabric color one layer at a time, or can become disyou too illusioned. Beta Cultus Members of Beta Cultus Club met Monday evening, March 13 at the home of Mrs. Bruce Walton with Mrs. Byron Montague and Mrs. Leo Fech as assisting hosts. Mrs. Howard Stevens, president, welcomed members and announced that the state convention will be held April 26th in Fillmore. Plans were made to attend. The pledge to the flag was led by Mrs. Ida Reece and the collect was read by Mrs. Roy Wightman. The program on literature and drama was given by the three ladies who were hosts and chairmen of the meeting. They presented a program as follows: Mrs. Montague presented a program, on poetry, stating that lines of poetry need not always rhyme and read as an example an original poem she wrote on sky scrapers. She also read a sentimental poem from an old book titled The Toys and also society. Her last presentation was a poem taken from the Woman October, 1949 Club magazine called Winged by Ly-be- th WalL Mrs. Fech told of the importance of contesting with dramatic readings and presented an old time dramatic reading in which she won first place in competition a number of years ago. The poem told the story of a railroad engineer who traveled too fast, the rail signals, his sick daughter and the results of it all. Mrs. Walton retold a short book review from The Peaceable Kingdom by Jan De Har-to- g, taken from the McCalls magazine book section. It told of the first woman to go into the prisons in England in 1653 to try and make better living conditions for children who were imprisoned. At the close of the program dainty refreshments were served by Mrs. Walton, Mrs. Montague and Mrs. Fech. Tickets available for B. Y. The collect was read by Mrs. Glade Cowan and the pledge was led by Mrs. Faye play Dur-ran- Firemen's Auxiliary The Goshen Lady Firemens Auxiliary meeting was held Mar 15, 1972 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was under the direction of President, Phyllis Finch. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Door prizes were won by Faye Morgan and Jeanne Beck. Twenty members were present and the rest of the evening was spent playing bingo. PFC Evan A. Mitchell and his wife, Dianne Elmer Mitchell, have spent a few days in Payson visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Elmer, and other relatives. PFC Mitchell was chosen through competition as soldier of the month for February of the 597th Maintenance Co. at Fort Car-so- n, Colo. A machinist on base, he is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arzie Mitchell of Fairview. The couple have now returned to Fort Carson, where they are residing. The family of Walter Thatcher of Salem met with him and his wife at their home in Salem to celebrate his birthThe family took homeday. made ice cream and birthday cake with them and all enjoyed an evening of visiting. The Junior Delta Bridge Club celebrated its 51st anniversary Monday afternoon when Leila Gray was hostess to a four some for luncheon and cards. Mrs. Gray is the only remaining charter member of the club since the death of Clyde W. McMahan last fall. Emma Cluff and Della Wilson are other: members. Add sugar gradually and cream well. Add beaten eggs and milk. Sift flour and soda and add to creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly. Add dates,, chips, and nuts or coconut. Drop from teaspoon on greased baking sheet. Press down with fork. Sprinkle with sugar if desired. They went to Mexico City by plane, and from there traveled by bus to Taxco and Acapulco. The couple was married Feb. 22 at the Manti Temple in the presence of Craigs grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Clark, Payson; also the brides uncle, David Nelson of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Theron Heelis of Payson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Smith who were married two weeks ago in the Manti Temple. Later they were joined by Mrs. Joyce Stahle of Manti. The American Legion will sponsor six girls for Girls State to be held in Cedar City this year from June 4th to June 10th. Another special booklet, Summer of Decision was presented to each girl by the Stake leaders. The Laurels and their leader Ruth Brown of Goshen sang, Your Pearl of Great Price. A special display on a table featured a minature girl standing by a picture of the Salt Lake Temple and a bride and groom in minature form. Laurel leaf and pearls, symbols of Laurels also graced the table. Refreshments were served. Ward Laurel Leaders assisting in arrangements were : Effie Bell, Eureka; Ruby Brown, Irma Dell DeGraffenried, North; Verna Throckmorton, Genola; Becky Spencer, Center; Barbara Barney, South; and Ruth Brown Goshen.
