In Ireland theyre known as Dolla-ghan- s, Germans refer to them as Lachforelle. Due to their resemblence to landlock salmon, in the deep clear lake of Argentina they are called salmon trout. By any name they are an anglers delight. Introduced to the U.S. in 1883 the brown has become the trout to recon with on both sides of the nation. It is truly a trout with charisma. I personally would rather take a respectable brown than a dozen rainbows or cutthroat of comparable size. The worlds record with a rod and reel is 39 12 lbs. from Lock Awe, Scotland in 1866. The largest U.S. rod and reel brown was caught this year in Lake Superior, 29 pounds 9 It is interesting to ounces. note that a 37 34 pound brown was killed in the Logan River here in Utah with a pitch fork. The Logan and the Provo Rivers both have produced fish over 15 pounds periodically through the years. It seldom fails that the Provo River produces several brownies that will top 10 pounds. In order to survive the brown trout must have deep pools, undercut banks or heavy willows son. Chukar and Hungarian partridge seasons continue through January 15. Quail hunting is finished in Utah except for Washington County where it continues unti January 2. The cottontail chase ends March 1. Goose hunters stop hunting December 19 while duck and permit-holdin- g whistling swan hunters go on until January 2. The Wilsons snipe season has already ended.
