Elder Packer, an educator, has been an air force pilot and a city commissioner. He holds a doctorate in educational administration from Brigham Young University. He was formerly president of the New England Mission. Part of his Church duty is to supervise missionary activities in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and South Africa. The Conference session will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Stake Center, 90 South 2nd East. Stake President Max E. Nelson, RFD 1, says visitors are welcome. Eagles Nest pageant planned On Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st the same students went to Salt Lake to the University of Utah to compete in the A schools State Forensics Tournament. Every one of them placed with Jay Jolley receiving a superior, Brian Peterson, Jane Marvin, Steve Olsen and Sherry Bryan an Excellent; and Kathleen Dixon and Noreen Rasmussin a good. This brings to a close a very successful season for the forensics squad of Payson High. Brent Hawker who has helped coach the Extemp, teams this year and Mrs. Joan Christensen, Forensics Coach, accompanied the students to Salt Lake. Easter cantata The Payson Park Ward Choir will present an Easter Cantata, The Crucifixion, by John Stainer, at 6 p.m. in the ward ' chapel. This presentation is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Easter Sunday. The public is invited. Barbara Leatham will conduct, with accompaniment by Lorna Paxman ana Shirley Riley. Arch Williams will be reader. Soloists will be Linda Shirts and Martha Tanner, with Carl Nelson as guest soloist. Scott Robison is choir president and in charge of arrangements. The annual Kiwanis Talent Show is scheduled for May 8, 7:30 p.m. at Pay-so- n Senior High School auditorium, according to Lewis Huff, chairman. A rousing, enthusiastic, invigorating experience came to Nebo Scout District Monday evening at the Nebo Stake Center where scouts, scouters and parents gathered for a Court of Honor. Students from the Indian Placement Program of the LDS Church from as far away as The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Payson will be held Saturday, Mar. 28, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park. All children of Payson, from one to 12 years are invited. Mrs. Sandy Huff, chairman and sponsor, said the Payson Chamber of Commerce, merchants and professional people are cooperating in the event. Some 300 dozen eggs are being colored by Mrs. Huff and her assistants, and will be hidden in various parts of the park, which will be divided as to age group. Certain eggs will be marked for prizes, which may be had at the stand in the park. Others will be stamped with the name of a downtown merchant, who will give the child a nickle for showing the egg to him; and others will be marked with Stand and the finder of the egg may go to the stand to get his nickle. The nickles will be handed out as long as they last. Helpful, friendly clerks and plenty of easy parking make Payson a delightful place to shop Easter egg hunt a meeting of the Payson City Council, held recently in the Council Chambers, it was reported that progress is being made on cleaning irrigation ditches. Councilman Phillip Lundell stated that farmers of the area are trying to abide by the Utah County burning regulations. Councilman discussed means of protecting the irrigation ditches against encrouchment along the upper and lower Spring Creek ditches. The council plans a study of possible use of students from Brigham Young University to assist in street planning, park planning and water system planning for this city. It was pointed out that these students are working under skilled instructors and anxious to put their knowledge to actual use in some cases. Engineers Associates explained the proposed plan for sewer, water and streets for the northeast freeway annex. At SENIOR CITIZENS Payson City will be obliged to assume the total costs of the Senior Citizens program in Payson after April 1st of this year, according to Stanley Wilson, direc- tor. Until this time the federal government has participated in cost of the program. Mr. Wilson outlined the program setup for the year 1970. COURT ACTION Mr. Wilson informed the council that he has instructed his attorney to discontinue court action against Payson City in his objection to the establishment of a Shoe Repair shop as planned at 210 East 200 North by John Leonis. This problem is still under study by the council. REDEMPTION . The council approved redemption of Certificates of Time Deposits in the Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund in the sum of $1368.95 plus interest of $67.17 and deposit to the Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund in the sum of $3,400, 1057. WELL Councilman Phil E. Jones informed the council of having test pumped the 2 deep well at the park and a special valve will be installed. Several sites for the location of the proposed new deep well were dis- cussed. CELEBRATION The city council will begin to make plans for the 1970 Golden Onion Days Celebration, and plans for specifications for floats will be drawn and presented to the clubs for bids for construction. Fun-o-R- ee NEWS OF THE TROOPS Scoutmaster Joe Daley reports that Troop 198 will Easter Camp at San Rafael Desert. Scoutmaster Norman Rowley informs us that Troop 96 is working on finger printing directed by Utah County Sherrif Ralph Chappie. Scoutmaster Paul Wood reported that Troop 92 is specializing in swimming and life saving. Four boys participated in the w at BYU. Scoutmaster Leo Chambers reported that six boys participated also in the event at BYU. They are also working on their one and one half mile hike. Scoutmaster Joe Lynn Spencer also w with Troop 197. attended the BYU Scoutmaster Dennis Dixon of Troop 91 also participated at BYU. They studied Conservation of Natural Resources and citizenship in the home. They are currently working with the Payson City Park improvement program. They also went on a snow shoe hike in Payson canyon with shoes made of barrel staves. Scoutmaster Andy Jasperson of Troop 97 are working on Star scouting and are progressing with cookery. Scoutmaster William Lynn Jones of Troop 95 is leaving the Payson area. The troop currently is under the supervision of the troop committee. One member went to The troop is studying BYU camping and cooking. Scoumaster William Brook of Troop 94 reported that four of his troop attended the BYU They are studying merit badges on citizenship in the community and home and conservation of natural resources.
