She was accompanied by her sister, Charlotte Montague, of Long Beach, Calif. They traveled by way of United Airlines and spent two days in Denver, Colo., visiting Mrs. Thomas son, Sterling Bradford and wife and family. From there they went to Cleveland, Ohio, and there spent a week with Arta May Balyint, a daughter of Mrs. Thomas. All motored on to New York and attended the LDS pageant at Plamyra. They spent a couple of days there and then went back to Cleveland. Mrs. Montague then returned to Payson and visited here a week. Mrs. Thomas stayed for a month and returned home Wednesday in time for Homecoming and the class reunion of the class of 1912 before going back to Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Hurst and eight children have arrived from Covina, Calif., and are visiting with his mother, Mrs. Paul 0. Hurst. Mr. Hurst expects to settle in the valley and return to classes at Brigham Young University. Mr. and Mrs. Bryon Hurst daughter, Stephanie, are visiting in Payson at the home of his mother, Mrs. Paul 0. Hurst, and expect to return to their home in Phoenix, Ariz., after the celebration. Byrons wife and daughter have spent a month in Payson and were joined by him this week. and Mrs. H.P. Jackson of Payson accompanied her sister, Mrs. Vivian Wooley and daughters, Clipta Jean and Wilma, of Las Vegas, Nev., in a trip to Sun Valley, Idaho, where they visited their brother and a niece. The Nevadans stopped in Pay-so- n a few days enroute home. Dr. and Mrs. Mark Kartch-nand children, Kevin, 8; and Kathy Ann, 6; have returned to their home in Tus-co- n, Ariz., after a pleasant visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weston Bean, and her sister, Linda Bean, on vacation from duties as a teacher in the public schools at Sacramento, Calif., and her brother, Rex Bean, and his wife and daughters, Valerie and Pamela, er 465-239- Homecoming 5 of Ogden. Mrs. Kartchner and the children came to Payson a month ahead of her husband and had a fine visit with her family prior to his arrival. Last week a brithday party was arranged at the Bean home in Payson honoring Valerie Bean, who was celebrating her 16th birthday. All spent the weekend in Ogden, where alovelySunday dinner was a high point of the occasion. Overnight guests at the home of Mrs. Ethel Mitchell were her neice and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, and five children of Las Vegas, Nev. The family was enroute home from a trip to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Peery and family of Santa Ana, Calif., arrived in Payson early last week and remained through the celebration. They were guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Page Peery and also visited other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Taylor spent a few days at Manassa, Colorado with Mrs. Taylors aunt, Mrs. Barbara Gilleland. Enroute home they mapped their trip through New Mexico, Arizona and Southern Utah, noting many places of interest. Mrs. Ned Taylor and her daughter, Mrs. Shirl (Nedra) Hanks of Salem attended a party in Midvale at the home of Mrs. Lynn Taylor. They were accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Taylor of Sandy. Miss Linda Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Weston Bean, left Wednesday by car for Sacramento, Calif, where she will take up her classes as a teacher of Home Economics in a high school. Last year, she was the youngest of the 80 faculty members in the school which has a student body of 1800. During her summer vacation she attended classes at BYU and recently enjoyed a two-we- trip ek to Ha- waii. There she visited a former fellow teacher, Mary W asset, and her husband, Gary Wassel, who are now residing in Oahu. She was also a houseguest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mori, whose daughter, Alta, is engaged to marry Stanley Sugita, a former Payson man and student at Payson High visitors Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hillman were happy to have their sons and families here during Homecoming. They were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hillman and sons, Roger and Gene of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hillman and son, R.L., and daughter, Lorie. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Wilson and children have arrived from Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., where they have been residing since Mr. Wilson was called into active duty with the Pleasant Grove Quartermaster Army Reserves last May. After abrief furlough he expects to return east and report for overseas duty. Mrs. Wilson and the children will remain in Payson during his absence. The family formerly made their home in Ogden, where Mr. Wilson was employed as an engineer in charge of freeway construction. Mr. and Mrs. Frank of Roy spent last week at Fish Lake with Mr. and Mrs. Ammon Talor, the couples camping in their own trailers. The Mortensens returned to their home and later returned to Payson for events of the local celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Laurance Haws two children Karen and Tommie of Anaconda, Montana spent the Labor Day weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Pete Schmidt. Their children Irene and Kay returned home with them after spending the and last month with their grand- parents.. Jay and Janell Broadhead of Reside, California, children of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Broadhead visited the past two weeks with their aunt and uncle Donna and Ray Stickney. Gorman Zazzie, Indian student from Navajo, New Mexico returned for the third year to live with his foster parents Mr., and Mrs. Tom Sorensen. He arrived on Tuesday. Speakers were Mr. Hurst and Mrs. Hurst and son Milon. A duet was sang by Alice and Harley and a closing song by the entire family. A large crowd was in attendance. Following the service open house was held at the Hurst home in honor of Milon who left Fri. for Ireland. A large crowd of relatives and friends attended. Mr. and Mrs. Oral Stewart Cary, Idaho and daughter Mrs. Richard (Joan) Bennion and baby daughter of Salt Lake attended the wedding reception of Don Christiansen and bride Barbara Dunford Christiansen. The Stewarts are former West Mountain residents. of Mr. and Mrs. Howard That- cher of Las Vegas, Nevada visited Mr. and Mrs. Glen Christiansen on Sat. They also attended the Christiansen re LaVaughan Mr. and Mrs. Charlas Shepherd of Springville spent Sat. visiting her daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. Richard Adams. Damage Controlman LaVaughan H. Johnson, USN, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest H. Johnson of 93 W. Third St., S. Payson, Utah, is serving aboard the destroyer tender USS Shenandoah. The Shenandoah is scheduled to arrive back in the U.S. in late August after more than four months with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. During the cruise, the ship stopped in Naples, where the crew had a chance to visit several historical cities of Italy. The primary mission of the Shenandoah has been to provide repairs and logistic support to units of the Sixth Fleet. Mr. and Mrs. Abner Baird and Mrs. Rebecca Twede attended graduation exercises Aug. 23rd at the B.Y.U. Field House for their grandson Robert A. Baird Jr. In the evening they witnessed the presentation of his diploma and receiving of a degree in Socialogy at the Wilkenson Center. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Baird and Mrs. Twede attended the Twede and Baird reunions held at the G.R.A. Park in Provo. Mr. David Christiansen of Seattle, Washington visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Glen Christiansen from Thurs. until Monday. He attended The wedding reception of his brother Don.
