Show PAYSON CHRONICLE THE Thursday, June 22, 1967 Payson, Utah . 84651 Americas Great Wakara Riding Club Holds Monthly Meet National Recreation Lands... The Wakara Riding Club, at a metting held June 18 at Ivan Haskells home, outlined the following activites for the coming month. Little League - Big Benefits a very wise man can judge the true value of the light in a boys eye or the lift in his heart when his team scores an all important run. After all the close calls have been argued and the scores are all forgotten, what real value or residue is left in the lives of the participants? It is a rather fascinating thing to try to see what the real basic value is of something as common to our American way of life as the All American Game. What would we be giving up if we were to abolish the sport? Keen competition teaches several important lessons. Some of the more obvious values are a sense of team spirit, cooperative effort, and personal responsibility to bring about the preservation of a set of regulations and rules of the game. Take for example a young person who has reached success because of his sharp intellect, and possess native musical ability and a measure of physical attractiveness. What will happen to this young boy, if fate decides that he just happens to be assigned to a losing team? Humility and honorable defeat are hard lessons, but they are lessons that must be acquired if one is to become a sound, adequate functioning adult. A young boy who learns how to shoulder his share of responsibility on a team transfers this same sense of fiersonal obligation to meet the bigger problems of an adult world. The next time you as a proud parent attend a little league game, take out a few moments from the excitement of the contest to let your mind consider the bigger benefits of a so called sport. Who but Peanut Leagues First Game Last Saturday night the Pay-so- n Peanut League held their first game, pitting team 2, under coach Gordon Hendrickson, against team 3, under coach Jack Walker. (Team 1 is still in need of a steady coach.) Coach Walkers team won the game Saturday under the pitching of 8 year old Mike Hill with a score of 2 to 1. Pitching for team 2 were Kevin Hall and Kevin Hiatt. There are three Peanut League teams in Payson. The boys on these teams are all from 7 to 10 years old.
