Show Plant Mew Fertilizer ACyiifeeEJ With the recent opening of er the Andersens new bulk plant here. Utah County now has one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the entire Western United States. ver-tiliz- Located a mile west of here on State Highway 15 near the new interstate freeway now under construction, the modern plant features the latest engineering concepts for pushbutton mixing and loading of the complete range of farm fer- tilizers, including micro- nutrients, for Utah Valley growers. Fertilizer blends are to fit exact oil and crop requirements of each farm. The all - steel building is plainly visible from as far away as Provo, as it towers 75 feet ot elein the sky with a vator for transferring the fertilizers from rail cars to the top of the building for storage. 'Since the fertilizer is stored Gerald Andersen, overhead, owner and operator of the plant, said, we are able to reduce handling and to keep the modern fertilizer prills unbroken, which insures more even distribution and better utilization by crops. The plant features eight wood-linstorage bins with a total capacity of almost 650 tons. When activated by specially designed hydraulic controls the bin doors open and allow the fertilizer to feed by gravitation into the mixer and scales, and after blending, it custom-f- ormulated 96-fo- scales, such as the one shown here, accurately measure predetermined amounts of various fertilizer products as they are blended to exact crop and soil requirements at the Andersen Farm Service Center's new bulk fertilizer plant at Spanish Fork, Utah County, Utah. Paul Haderlie of Spanish Fork shown here at the console, uses hydraulic controls to weigh order of fertilizer, including micronutrients, and mix a six-to- n in less than five minutes. Precision ed is emptied into the spreader truck or trailer parked below. We timed our first order last week, Mr. Andersen said, and it took less than five minutes to mix and load one of our six-to- n spreader trucks for delivery to a customer. Mr. Andersen said the plant has a bulk spreader truck which his crew will use for custom spreading the fertilizer. 'In addition to the truck, he said, we have three pull-tyspreaders which farmers may rent and pull with their own tractors. More units will be added as they are needed. Robert 0. Trottier, operap, tions manager for Utah pointed out that in addition to the speed with which the fertilizer can be mixed and loaded, another important feature of the new plant is the accuracy with which the product is weighed and measured for each order. The precision scales, Mr. Trottier said, assure each customer that he is getting the exact blend he needs for predetermined crop yields on his particular soil and the precise amount he is paying for. Andersens is a franchised Co-o- p dealer agent of Utah Cooperative Association. The bulk fertilizer plant is the first step in what eventually will be Andersens Farm Service Center. Plans call for developing the site into a complete agronomic supply center including a service station for farm and passenger vehicles, a complete line of Co-o- p brand tires, tools, THE At the regular June 9, 1967 a 0.7 mill tax levy was established for 1967. This represents a small increased levy from 0.4 mill as levied last year. From this levy the District will be able to meet its operating expenditures for 1968 and place a portion of the revenue in an emergency and capital improvement reserve fund. the same meeting Judge Maurice Harding of the Fourth District Court installed Wallace T. The Board presented to past President, Sterling D. Jones, a framed certificate of recognition for the work accomplished and the progress made by the District during the three years that he served as Chairman of the Board and President of the District. The certificate was presented to Mr. Jones by Mr. Clyde Ritchie who recently was elected to fill the position previously held by Mr. Jones. Mr. Lynn S. Ludlow, Manager, commented that in establishing the tax levy at 0.7 mill the majority of the Directors indicated that with construction of the $325 million Bonneville Unit underway, a reserve fund was necessary to provide funds that would be used by the District to construct essential and works needed and to have funds available to meet any unforeseen emergencies. Water resource projects that will be needed would be the construction of those works beyond the authority of the UJS. Bureau of Reclamation to construct which are essential for the final distribution of water made available by the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project. It would also provide funds to add improvements to areas within the District so that the maximum utilization can be made of all the water available to the District. With reserve funds available it could eliminate future bond elections or result in greatly improved terms under which the District can obtain funds for the construction of important water-resour- ce works to meet the municipal, industrial, and irrigation needs of the District. Directors were very conscious of the present tax problems, but felt that a small increase of 0.3 mill was justified to permit the District to be in a financial position to meet the water needs of the citizens of the District. With a legal limit of one mill in taxing power it was determined that the District should begin adding to its capital and emergency reserve fund at this time. This will be the only way the District can meet its needs and continue to remain within the legal limits of its taxing power. By establishing a slightly higher tax levy at this time will result in many benefits as well as future economies to the District. ARCH THEATRE 8th North & Thurs. Main, Spanish Fork - Fri. Sat.
