Mr. Hamilton's Fifth Grade We have been busy decorating our room for Christmas. We have enjoyed making candles, holly wreaths, and stockings. In social science we have been studying about the purchasing of the Louisiana Territory. How fortunate our leaders were in buying this yast land from France for $15,000,000 or $ .03 an acre. In the years that followed, thirteen new states were made from this territory. Sixth Grade News We have enjoyed arithmetic in Mr. Petersons class this year. It has been fun learning how to add and subtract fractions that have to be reduced to the least common denominations. Mr. Monk has been reading a story called the Hotel Mystery. we have enjoyed it very much. In art Mr. Monk has taught us how to make the German Bell, the porcupine and other Christmas tree ornaments. On the north wall of our room we have a large mural of the Nativity and on the south wall, a mural of Santa Claus. The Library group has decorated the hall windows of the library wifh Santa Claus figures and poinsettas. They have also made poinsetta wreaths and sprays for the east windows of the library. The class is planning a radio program for Christmas. Two people have had birthdays recently, Susan Taylor and Connie Elmer. An English king with a sense of humor gave us the name for sirloin steak. The World Book Encyclopedias research department says Charles II once compared his affection for his friends gathered at a Christmas dinner to his fondness for a loin of good beef. Viola Cowan read several Christmas poems. Christmas carols were sung by the group, led by Viola Cowan, with E'hel Decker as accompanist. The lesson, Down Memorys Lane, was given by Iris Deuel.
