Early in the summer of 192s, Dr. Ixuis N. Ellsworth and Dr L C. Potter, representing tho Salt Iaike City Former Paytoriiang cluh met with Dr. L D. Stewart, then mayor of Payson City, and suggested that Payson sjionsor a home coming celebration. As an outgrowth of that visit Dr. Stewart called together the heads of all civic and church organizations, city officials, and civ. ic leaders at a banquet and meeting at Arrowhead resort where the proposal was presented to them. The idea was enthusiastically endorsed at that time, and it was suggested that a suitable place be built to conduct a sports program to feature the proposed celebration. The response from every source was of the highest order and in the space of less than a month, through contributions in cash and labor, together with some shrewd property trades, the result netted a beautiful $25,000.00 Sports Field, one of the finest in the state. In 1929 at the request of Utah County authorities, who at that time were having each town in the county sponsor a celebration to advertise one certain product grown in the county, Payson adopt-- ! ed the GOLDEN ONION as a symbol of the many farm products Vwr ftnrtHllv inter-mounta- p-r- i Ix-e- The big feature each year has been Paysons famous thoroughbred horse races conducted with all the pomp and ceremony of the big tune tracks, a show that has atattention and tracted state-wid- e hundreds of Utahns have shown their appreciation of it by a steady patronage during the past eight years. To the thousands of visitors and former Paysonians who are attending this the Eighth Annual Golden Onion Days and Home Coming we invite you to join with us again from year to year, and with our keynote which prompted the promotion of this event FRIENDLINESS and GOODWILL ' we promise you bigger and bet- m to romp in VPa tr tp SHAFTING munity.
