Destiny does not always guide our footsteps or enlighten our vision. You may prefer the weather to be calm and warm. An-ji- ,f other may enjoy it more if it is cool and windy. I like it best when it is hot and sultry and stirred by and occasional breeze. So the world is made up of likes and dislikes of comparisons and contrasts. I differ from my neighbor because his horny hands like of the feel of the plow and the rein mine like the feel of the paper and pen. My friend is unlike me; I am unlike my friend. It is these differences that make life more interesting more att ractive. o Most people enjoy the companionship of their fellows. I enjoy the com panionship of friends and even strait gers, but I enjoy more being alone. 1 enjoy the crowds ami the noise, the bustle and the confusion, but silrejoice in the solitude and the ence. Together with others I can grow physically and mentally. Alone I can grow silently and strong. It is the noise and interference around us a we grow that fills our lives with confusion and tumult. We learn a great deal by living with others, but we learn more by living with ourselves. We can teach ourselves things we can never teach others or others can never teach us. There are things the tongue cun never utter or the hand can never act. It is the silence that teaches us these things the deep, unmoved silence. The silence can teach us things our minds can never create. I would like to wander to a silence where no man has ever entered. To some dark depth where even on the brightest days my eyes can look up and see the stars. Or perhaps out on some lonely peak where I can look down on purple shadows vast mysterious, beckoning. Just to sit and let the world go by! Ah, how restful is peace and how quiet is the silence! A place for poets Way up high I could sit and wonder, why the clouds and why the thunder? Why are the trees made of ivv'ood, what makes a crust of bread taste good; what makes the stars shine down so bright, what makes the darkness come at night Why does our heart beat sure and strong, what gives the bird its happy song? And on and on with all this lore, 1 could sit and wonder forevei more! 1 Imotherhood hiii-V- there would be no base or atrocity The abu-- e of love is hatred. The a base of kindness is cruelty. The ah pndc is humility. The abuse f courtesy is brutishness. The abuse of forgiveness is revenge. It is thow abuses of mankind upon mankind that makes the world a place of impenitence. I can he tolerant to abu-- e ami suffering, because I am convinced that it is beyond by ability to accept or reji ct. The unkindness of my friends does not hurt pie, becau-- e am sure it does not come from their hearts. It is my unkindness upon them that hurts more. But, then, should it hurt? For I am as help-los- s as they. I do not know for I have never lived without them. i 1 like to listen to the rain That patters on the roof, It gives the storm a soft refrain. And makes the shadows proof. I like tu hear the win at night When I am tucked in hed, A wind that blows with force and might And cares not whats ahead. I 9 ' I I I I I : R. . - ' t5 like the clear, blue summer sky The forests and the trees, like the mountains reaching h:gh I like the winter breeze. like the deserts blistering sar.d That glares beneath the sun, like to think that its God's hand That makes the rivers run. like the pine and evergreen And all the trees that grow, The aspen's brilliant summer sheen And the sunsets rudy glow. I ' " I - t v like the sky and trees and earth They seem so dean and free, And I am glad that God gave birth To all these things for me. Likewise, Die depositors, while I not know all of them, I do know they are men and women who are thrifty, that get behind improvement and betterment programs, that and support churches and schools, build business, and furnish money and confidence to banks. Bank failures are black eyes to any city or community. There is certainly nothing encouraging jn any honest business disaster. Surely these things because we happen upset us. But ju-.o have some money there, are we going to give up? To lay down is an admission that we are licked. If a tornado ihould visit us and destroy our houses, barns and other property, and perhaps many lives, would the survivors give up defeat? No.! But they would rustle together their resources, and in kind sympathy and they would reconstruct their community. The men whom we selected to represent us, known as the Depositors Committee, have been true and diligent in the trust given to them. They have gone over the affairs of the bank thoroughly, have conferred with some able ment on the situation, Mr. Hadlock, and others. The matter has been gone over between the joint committee. Now they pre-eto a constructive plan, that I believe is good, not only for the depositors, but for all. Our community must have a laink if we expect to progress. I would recommend that we put our shoulders to the wheel and as.-iin rolling this thing to a successful conclusion that we all sign the waiver whole heartedly, and plelge our faith and material support.
