FUTURE HOPEFUL FOR MINING A hopeful future is forecast for the mining industry which has suffered severiy from the economic depression during the first part of 1930. Mentals are more essential to in dustrial progress today than they have ever been. The electric, radio, telephone, and raildoad industries to name but a few are virtually dependent on an adequate, fair priced supply of the base metals. Twenty years ago the mining in dustry was still in the thoes of wild west conditions. At present it is operated on sound economic prin ciples that compare favorably with those of any other industry. Seien tifie discoveries and innovations and improved standards of management have enabled it to make great, pro gross. The industrys principal problem is the agitation for excessive tax rates and burdensome legislation in several states. It is to be hoped that the people of the west, knowing that mining is one of their principal employ ers and taxpayers, will not be led as tray by unfounded criti cism of great industry. a the only way you can develop in you fonvet rod eliminate the worst. we all have faults, but We all have la : )t v, ibilu w !, whet these possibilities are Go rot of u, nine tenths ;md we too seld m know realize and appreciate the ihinys we do, which make us d.
