According to the NAM, the number of now orders coming in from customers is probably the most important factor determining the rate of activity in manufacturing. Yet in recent years there have boon significant differences in timing as between current sales and the receipt of new orders, some of Which may not be filled immediately. During the first seven months of 1952 the rate at which new orders were being received by manufacturfcg concerns exceeded the rate at which they were selling goods. A backlog of orders was built up. In the later part of 1952 an(j 1953, fk-- & new orders were both inrcToasing. Sale.) were keeping pace with new orders, however, so no additional backlog of unfilled orders was accumulating. The rate at which new orders were coming in dropped after May, 1953, and sales reached their peak in July of that year. New orders dropped faster than sales. During the last part of 1953 and most of 1954, new orders were not coming in as fast as current sales were being s delivered. Manufacturers, to a large extent, were keeping busy filling drders piled up in the past. The NAM points out that the raite at which new orders were being received increased after January, 1954. Sales down trend and did not reach their low point until October 1954. Our members are Rhana Rae and Instrumental. She will be Mfris Ecsdhor Robb arrived Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
