Show john melvin ward dies Is buried thursday very impressive funeral services were held thursday after afternoon in the parowan carowan east ward chapel for john melvin ward 63 who pas d away at his home here early monday morning following an illness of several months duration the opening song though deepening trials was offered by the combined choirs of both wards with ivan decker directing and itha as accompanist joseph E ward offered the opening prayer after which E ray lyman and berta burton sang a duet whispering hope with mary lyman at the piano speakers were H L adams W clair rowley mary M marsden and clair hulet with closing remarks by bishop W L adams who conducted the services other musical numbers were rendered by a male quartet consisting of ormon R weight albert quist robert rowley and ray D garner which sang jesus lover of my soul a solo by lee russell who sang the singing hills accompanied by berta mitchell Mi on the piano and ormon weight on the violin the closing song oh my father was offered by the choir the closing prayer was offered by david H richards and at the cemetery the grave was dedicated by samuel B jones of cedar city pall bearers were saunders M clark chester clair and orland ward and delbert all nephews and craig ward a grandson flowers were in charge of mrs pearl russell and a number of lady friends and relatives of the deceased mr ward was born bom at parowan carowan on april 23 1878 a son of edward and elizabeth parks ward he has spent his entire life here engaging in the livestock raising and farming fanning business until the past few years when he was employed by the forest service and later as custodian of the iron county court house on january 20 1900 he married dorothy clark who survives him and four sons were born bom to them three of whom also survive they are rex C ward of salt lake city lloyd C ward of san pedro calif and howard M ward of ParO carowan parowan Pa rowan warL he is also survived by one brother silas J ward of parowan carowan Pa rowan two sisters mrs isabella of par owan and mrs claude smith of wyoming and seven grandchildren mr ward has been a lover of animals and an ardent all his life having been one of fil 1 directors of the parowan carowan cur a ar rod club when it was org I 1 I 1 years ago and was a mci mc i er of that organization at the th e time of his death ile he took great pride in his fine me horses which he kept guptil the last year or two horse racing was almost an obsession with him even when he was too ill to be out of bed he had his son rex place a bed in his car and take him to the parowan carowan race meet last fall he loved to hunt and work in the m mountains never being quite at home u unless aless he was in the hills just before his eath death d he got a hunting dog to make his hunting equipment complete during durin g his entire lifetime mr ward was loved by everyone who knew him he was a kind father and a devoted husband mrs winston orton spent last week in i salt lake city with her father oscar decker who is in one of the hospitals there w where here he has undergone a major operation it is reported sported that he is making rapid recovery and will probably be able to come home next week the misses bess and cary ward came home from salt lake city the first of the week where the lat ter has been for Ireat treatment ment for n broken leg sustained as she was leaving school a few weeks ago the limb ib is reported to be doing all right now |
