Show former paragonah Para gonah postmistress passes impressive funeral services were held wednesday afternoon march 11 at 2 in the paragonah Para gonah goah ward chapel for sarah alice mcbride 72 years old and prominent eni paragonah Para gonah woman who died saturday in the iron county hospital of heart trouble after a two weeks illness the services were conducted by bishop J leonard and corn com fenced with the choir singing though deepening trials under the direction of amasa stones K X doyle robinson offered the opening prayer and then the choir sang that beautiful land thomas robinson victor R robinson and amenzo were the speakers with closing remarks b by y the bishop and a life sketch 01 01 the deceased given by ethel robb special musical numbers were a vocal duet whispering hope by ray cosslett and wm win C macfarlane of cedar city with beth leigh accompanying vocal solo mother mccrae by addie lund wit wilma lamoreaux accompanying violin duet lay my head beneath a rose by ivan and june decker accompanied compa nied by claudia burton 01 01 parowan carowan Pa rowan male quartet number jesus lover of my soul by ray garner gamer ormon weight robert rowley and albert quist also alsa of carowan parowan Pa rowan wan and the closing song lead me gently home by a mixed quartet consisting of amasa stones wm T davenport addle lund and wilma davenport accompanied by sarah davenport the closing prayer was offered by frank K williamson and at the cemetery the choir sang resting now from care and sorrow and theo corry of cedar city dedicated the grave the ward chapel was filled to capacity and the floral offerings were abundant and beautiful sarah alice mcbride was born on july 23 1870 in the old fort at par aginah she was a daughter of rich ard A robinson and deborah jane harris and was the eldest child in a family of seven when a young c hild child her father was called on a mission for the mormon church and being the oldest in the family she had to take some of the responsibility of the home twice her brother rich saved her life when they were children once when her clothing caught fire and again when her dress caught in the belt of her 9 grandfathers flour mill she married william albert mcbride of fillmore in 1880 and from this union seven children were born bom 6 of whom are still living she became a widow at the age of 45 when her husband was accidentally killed she was connected with the postoffice post office for 45 years beers and during this time she saw the t transportation of the mail frow from horse and buggy to automobile and airplane she was noted for her honesty and her ways while in the postoffice post office where she gave almost mo st 24 hour service she was also alcover a lover of flowers and shrubs and spent a lot of her time working ii m her flower garden which was an asset to td the her surviving children are A roy mcbride belle edwards evelyn davenport and lillis johnson of paragonah Para gonah thelma wood of salt lake city and vernon vemon mcbride of idaho and 29 grand children and 16 great grand children also 3 bro richard A robinson of los angeles dennis robinson of salt sail lake city and mart robinson of idaho and two sisters lulu corry of cedar city and lillie of paragonah Para conah gonah |
