Show Two Park City Girls I Enjoy Enjoying ng War Duties Dutie I 1 Tho following interesting letter WM was received this week by Mr and Mrs D. D Keith Buck parents ot of Miss Harriett a recent volunteer in the W WAVES A V E S. S Dear Folks Well Im I'm here again I have quite a abit abit bit to tell you this time I guess were we're 1 Just about the luckiest bunch ot of gals herc- herc hero can an you only imagine 2 weeks here and we get shore lIberty lIberty-Jt I havo happened though It if Navy day hadn't been so close and they wanted the W A V E S for tor the parade yesterday Wo We had a swell time weve been practicing practicing all week marching as a company Co that'd 40 us Anyhow some of us hadn't even been fitted for uniforms I so they rushed up and got us all a suIt and raincoat Honestly Honestly-a uniform On eau make all the difference in the world how you I feel really feel like a W WAVE A V E now and I wouldn't trade my navy blue suit for the fanciest dress money could buy Ordinarily we wear navy blue hats navy blue shirts and reserve blue ties tics to show that were we're just boots I mean the rest did we didn't have ours then then- but Saturday we all blossomed out In our white hats and shirts and black ties Wo We really thought we were beau beau- and we were too Well anyhow Saturday afternoon mess Wo We went early we all marched out as a company marched down to the subway and boarded it Our company I mean Platoon commander she's swell and our two company specialists I Condon and were Swartz-were there to keep us on the to right track and see we didn't get lost and did march in the parade We were so excited we hardly sat still stUl- wed we'd keep bobbing up to see what was goIng by next We all crowded to the side to see the Yankee egad Stadium is it huge Then wed we'd sing and I mean sing We do that practically all the time Leona Steele sang Going Home for tor us She's in our s section ion and she really has a beautiful voice Well Well-we finally got out ot of the sub sub- way Then we formed ranks as a whole company again and got into our place We were the second company after the Navy band and there was another com com- company company pany behind us then the Coast Guard band We waited there for tor a while while- and then tho Navy band started and we started in Boy that was really super super- I believe that was ono one ot of the tho proudest times Ive I've ever known to be one ot of those thousand ot of W A V E Sand and dont don't ever let anyone tell you that not the best because they are Im I'm sending you some somo clippings from the newspapers on the tho parade That's toe the first thing we dived for thIs morning after mess Sun Sun- Sunday Sunday day is 19 the only day they sell them out today front he was really swamped Well anyway after fter the parade we were supposed to get shore liberty You would have laughed to see the girls scatter when Miss Bosler yelled Die Dis Dismissed missed We started out with eight ot of otus ofus us- us usall all my room mates and first we went Into Its n a big de- de department department store Ive I've been st stores r s but this was n a warehouse When we got there the others were rushing around like mad So Martha and Eleanor and I said phooey we want to see New York but wo dont don't want to rush so fast tast well we'll miss other stuff So we ended alp up with the three ot of us We didn't have much time because the parade ended about 1530 or 1600 and we had to be back backby backby by 21 2100 00 And they meant 21 2100 00 Anyone who wasn't back by then lo lost t their shore liberty next time We got back by 1955 Miss Rosier Dosier said an hour early is better than a minute late I agree when that minute may cost you a day that's no tooling fooling either Well the three ot of us wa wan wan- wandered dered up the street to see what there was around We finally decided to get a acab acab cab and go some eat We want want- wanted wanted ed to go some where I nice guess he wanted to save us some money cause we went to Childs It was quite nice and really good but food next were time really going to go places we hope I sure had to laugh after we got out ot of Childs Child's we kept running Into officers I know darn well they wondered how we got Into uniform by some ot of the salutes wo we handed them One officer passed us and I guess we looked worried anyway he looked away until he was too close to salute then looked over and grinned We may have had on white hats but I guess we still looked like boots From Childs Child's we started up the street We didn't know where we were going going- but we were going we were enjoying ourselves though One of us said some some- something something thing about wondering where we were An elderly lady in a a. pretty blue coat said Arc you lost then proceeded to tell us we were a couple of blocks from we so wanted to go there I laughed She said It If you want to go godown godown down town go that way but It if you want to go up town which Im I'm sure you do do- dogo dogo go that way I She Wa wad awful nice So we wandered on up to ruth Fifth Avenue then to Sixth and then to Broadway We Just stood on the corner and looked and looked Three sailors that wee o standing near there thero wanted to know if we were lost I guess we must have look look- looked looked ed pretty green wed we'd stop to look around someone would ask us if wo we were lost Anyhow we told told them no n- nand and then Im I'm talking about the sailors again they proceeded to ask us how we got out ot of the tho gate with the shine we had All ot of us looked down at our shoes three pairs ot of almost shined shoes and three so 50 shiny you could powder your nose by looking at them them- wo we just looked at them When we got homo home though we had our shoes shined The shoo shoe shine boys would come up and say Shine W WAVE A V E. E We laughed they were cute and that old New York line lIno- they sure have It Well Well-we talked to them for tor awhile then said goodbye and wondered of off to see the Empire State building It was WIlS starting to get dark by then so on our way wo we shop shop- pad ped Boy they eally go in for tor fancy store windows and some ot of the ones we saw were really beautiful We passed some somo hat shops and you should see the hats th they hats y have hac anything I ever saw beat All sizes and shapes and colors colora and materIals I think Ill I'll take my Navy hat hatIm Im I'm getting used to It now We finally got to where we thought tho Empire State building should be be- but it wasn't so we decided someone had moved we It-we finally found It though Its It's not so bad It if you get on some c corner and look at It towering up there b but t it if you stand In front you'll break your neck neck-it really gives you a thrill when you see it We didn't have time t to go goIn In it but were we're going next time I After Arter that we decided t to try and find ContinUed on Page roue EnJoying War Duties c Continued from Page One the tho right sUbway we found ourselves of wandering somewhere around on Park Panic t Avenue Imagine I Well we were getting I nowhere nowhere fast so we asked a doorman I where the Lexington subway was was-he gave us the wrong so we started out we finally stopped and got I more this direction time we made It We didn't really go to any big places like we would have It f we had had more I 1 time suCh as the top ot of the Empire State buildIng the Statue of LIberty and those other places but we did see quite a bit of New York and we we had a 0 I swell time I We were tired when we got home last night but we all sat around telling each other where we had been and I I what we had seen but when we dId J r 1 hit the sack we really hit It i Well Well-that's what lye Ive been n doing You I know Its it's funnY I felt so lost and every every- everything I thing and was wonderinG it If I 1 was out of my mind when I enlisted but Its It's aU an anso so different now Im I'm getting so I love every ery minute of It it Believe getting me-getting Into uniform can sure bUre change your I opinion Im I'm really proud ot of miMe I wrote to Keith the other night LS If you write to him tell him to write cause I sure want to hear from him Ill I'll bet ho made a beautiful 7 shell back I told him all about what weve we've been doing Did I tell you we had our selection I interviews asked for radio but they probably will put me down as a store store- storekeeper storekeeper I keeper or yoeman because of my ence Id I'd sure like radio but It t they glue me the others I wont won't kick j ono on has to do the Job had our Im I'm suro glad those are over We had 3 shots shots- tetanus tanus smallpox and typhoid Wo get f somo Omo more this week Some Somo funs fun I Which reminds m we me we have a a. song that Goes like this They said the shots they Give us are I mighty mighty tine fine I But Dut some other sucker sucker- can an have the I rest ot of mine Oh I still love the Navy and I dont don't want to go home except I I guess apt C Ive I've told you tion about awe everything pasSed I good one this good about It week and wo sure feel eel Well Well-I guess that's about think all I can I only ot-only write to me soon and tell teU me all yoU can think of I Also hero quit Im I'm aro the clippings 1 I better soon Tell repeatinG those kid well write hello I hope brothers ot of mine I they're Ill I'll shove oft getting now along ok With my love I COMPLETES TE TR TRAINING I IN MOTOR I Private Ethel Agatha Johnson ot of this city has completed training In the Ms loo tor Transport school of the FIrst Wo- Wo Women's Wamen's mens men's Army Corps Training Center at Port Fort Des Moines Iowa Auxiliaries attending Specialist scho are enrolled either In the Bakers Baken ad f I Cooks School the Motor School or the Administrative School i In Bakers and Cooks School I learn how to buy and prepare food tood ti 1 meat and plan menus the army rah nt f AdminIstrative Specialist bool equip privates with knowledge ot of military il d flee routine necessary to carry on man ot of army records W A.
