old guard republican members of congress would be defeated in their vigorous efforts for reelection but few expected the tremendous crashing landslide that made new records tor for the democratic party over the entire nation it was a paralyzing defeat for the republicans a glorious victory for both democrats and disgusted republicans who worked and voted tor for a change ot 09 administration because of former misadministration and it came with a marvelous outpouring of votes which made new political history for the nation on earth america to date forty two states have gone overwhelmingly democratic assuring governor roosevelt votes in the electoral college with president hoover trailing with only fifty nine and some of those are still in doubt roosevelt has a popular vote of 4 1 over
