The Utah Heritage Highway runs from Thistle Junction south of Spanish Fork along U.S Highway 89 to the Arizona border and includes neighbors just across the border in Page and Fredonia. Also included is the breathtaking Utah Heritage By-Way that follows Highway 24 through Wayne County to Capital Reef National Park, crossing Boulder Mountain into Garfield County along Highway 12 and returning to U.S. Highway 89 just south of Panguitch near Bryce Canyon. Utah Heritage Highway Month offers visitors a chance to experience experi-ence Western heritage with a strong Mormon flavor. A sample of the unique festival's during the month includes. May 25: Heritage Highway Ribbon Cutting Ceremony (Marysvale). Dignitaries from throughout Utah will gather in Marysvale for a traditional ribbon cutting, Dutch oven copkout and old West legends by storyteller Paul Turner. May 25-26: Heritage Highway Festival (Kanab). This is a brand new celebration in honor of the Utah Heritage Highway. The arts and crafts fair offers timeless and traditional crafts and art from a growing art community. There will be heritage games for the children, stories by local historians, histori-ans, historic walking tours, photo contest, food booths and local music. One of America's greatest religious pageants pag-eants tells the story of Mormon pioneers traveling from Nauvoo, III., to the Sanpete Valley. Thousands attend this heritage event in the shadow of the Manti Temple. Held during the Pageant and continuing through June 25 the Mormon Miracle Craft Fair features top notch local artists and crafters. June 17: Fremont Indian State Park Atlatl Competition (Gear Creek Canyon). Atlatls were used by ancient hunters to add velocity to their throwing spears. This unique contest pits today's atlatl throwers against one another in a contest not to be missed. Je 17: Wayne County Horse Rates (Loa).
