Soccer Ben Lomond gives Park City an overtime scare in quarterfinals by Dave Fields OF THE RECORD STAFF The Park City High School soccer team dodged a Ben Lomond bullet Monday thanks to Jason Cole's second goal that tied the game before the end of regulation. The Miners went on to stave off the Scot's relentless attack in the two overtime periods, resulting in a shootout. When the game went into the five-shots-each shootout - the second this season for Park City - the cards were stacked in the Miners' favor. Not only does Park City have excellent shooters and one shootout victory under its belt this season, it has a national-level goalie in Kellan Wilson. Ironically, it was Wilson's skill that took him away from a high school game earlier this season to attend a recruiting recruit-ing exhibition and almost cost him his eligibility eligi-bility for the remainder of the season. Luckily, for the Miners and Wilson, the remainder-of-the-season suspension was changed to a one game and Wilson has been allowed to play the last two games after regular-season goalie Cody Case injured his ankle. By halftime, Ben Lomond had responded with a goal and the game was tied at 1-1. Five minutes into the second 40-minute half, Alex Knudsen got a lucky no-call when he made a crossing pass from out of bounds to Jason Cole who headed the ball into the net giving Park City a brief 2-1 lead. A Scot chipped a shot over Wilson's head to tie the score and then Ben Lomond followed a missed Park City penalty kick with another goal to take the lead 3-2. Cole scored the game-tying goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation and Miller had a chance to give Park City a win when he had a breakaway shot that was stopped by Ben Lomond's goalie. The score was 3-3 going into overtime. A shootout followed two scoreless overtime over-time periods in which Ben Lomond pounded pound-ed Wilson but to no avail. Wilson gave himself a comfortable cushion cush-ion in the shootout after making great saves on Ben Lomond's first two attempts and his teammates Sam Sneed and David Perez made their goals. The shootout got interesting interest-ing when Wilson didnt stop the third and fourth shots by Ben Lomond but Miners Chris Morgan and Alex Knudsen made the game-winning shots. Following the victory celebration, Wilson said that he decides before each game which way he's going to dive in a shootout and after nil yjese Internet Services Local Internet Access 2r Park City now has a stable Internet Service!
