Chalada Record Edifice In response to public pressure, the Summit County Council has amended current animal control statutes to allow residents to adopt homeless wildlife. However, they must license the animals and keep them leashed when venturing outside the owner's yard. The action was taken following a packed public hearing in Snidelyville crowded with placard-waving members of the League to Prevent Homeless Moose. According to Council manager Bob Jester, the new megapet license could be a boon to PHOTO BY JOHN DEROSA Bullwinkle has been adopted by Boris and Natasha Godunov who live in Prospector. Members of the LPHM claim that while local cats and dogs are allowed to live with local families, ride in the front seats of their Subarus and romp on local Nordic trails - moose and other wildlife are shot with tranquilizer guns and deported to the forest. The law goes into effect April 1. the county treasury which is sorely in need of new revenue sources. The new license fee is charged by the pound. While many local residents skirt existing licensing rules by disguising their dogs and cats as small children. Jester laughed, "I'd like to see them try to hide a moose or an elk in an Old Town backyard!" RESIDENCES 9 Canyons sells'The to D.V By Tim Clod Record Rabble Rouser Canyons Resort president Mike Gorp announced this week that the company has sold the "The" that had been used in the name "The Canyons Resort." In a major rebranding that coincided with significant upgrades to the resort's base area, the company had discontinued the use of the "The" at the beginning of this ski season. The resort came out with a new and very orange logo that depicts figure eight ski turns running horizontally rather than vertically. The new logo was confusing enough that marketing officials decided to drop the "The" from the new design. "It was a hard decision," said Gorp. "But in the end, we decide to stick with the grammatically difficult name 'Canyons.' The "The" had served us well for several years, but was looking a little shop-worn. Since we quit using it. it was just out there in the boneyard taking up space. It was in the way. We thought it might be worth something, so we threw it on eBay just to see what would happen." Despite the worldwide exposure the "The" got on eBay, it is kind of ironic that the buyer was another local ski area. Deer Valley Resort picked it up. Deer Valley General Manager Bob Wheaties said that he has had his eye on the "The" for a long time. After being named the best ski resort in the galaxy for five year in a row, his marketing staff felt like there was reason to really set it apart from other ski areas. "We have great skiing, great food, great lodging, and great employees," said Wheaties. "We've got adjectives everywhere you look. The only thing missing was a definite article." Beginning with next year's ski marketing, the resort will now be known as "The Deer Valley." Wheaties was obviously very pleased with the acquisition. "You don't see The Vail, or The Whistler. They just sound kind of generic. There's only one 'The Deer Valley'" The bidding on eBay was quite active, with afiercecompetition between The Deer Valley and The Market at Park City. The winning bid was just over $1 million. "We feel like we got a pretty good price on this gently used definite article," said Wheaties. "It will take a little refurbishing to get it up to our standards. We won't use just any old 'The' here at "The Deer Valley." -,'C-t' We can all learn to be mittsmart USING ENERGY WISELY IS GOOD FOR U T A H .
