COUNTY SHERIFFS REPORT A woman says she heard noises around her home in Coalville about one hour before her house caught on fire leading detectives at the Summit County Sheriffs Office to suspect arson. The fire occurred Aug. 20 at 675 E. Chalk Creek Road, Sheriffs Office Capt. Sherm Farnsworth said. "She was getting ready for bed and heard a noise [and] ended up ignoring the noise." he said, adding that a neighbor reported a fire at the home about an hour later. Firefighters arrived around 10:20 p.m. as the woman tried to extinguish the blaze wiih a hose, Farnsworth said. The fires origin was a pile of burnt wood and ashes investigators found on the porch, he added. "Most of the ash pile was what was left of her flower pot," Farnsworth said, adding that forensics experts haven't determined whether an accelerant was used to start the fire. Though no arrests have been made. Farnsworth insisted. "[Detectives] have several suspects or leads that they are following." If a person started the fire they could face a second-degree felony charge of arson punishable by a $10,000 fine and one to 15 years in prison. "This is a very serious offense and they need to be concerned." Farnsworth said. "The people of interest are from the Coalville area." Other calls received last week by Sheriffs Office dispatchers include: A man was arrested at Home Depot in Snyderville after fleeing from a deputy on S.R. 248 in a Subaru. "He was inside the store," said Farnsworth, adding that the 28year-old suspect from Park City, whose driver license was revoked, was charged with a third-degree felony for "fleeing or evading." Deputies were investigating a motorist for allegedly driving under the influence in western Summit County on Sept. 3. At least one man reportedly suffered injuries when a fight broke out during a party in the Uinta Mountains east of Kamas on Sept. 3 at 1:53 a.m. A bicycle was allegedly stolen from a garage in Snyderville on Sept. 3. A motorist driving a black Chevrolet Avalanche reportedly left a gas station in Coalville without paying for fuel on Sept. 3. Kids were reportedly racing their automobiles and disturbing the peace in Henefer on Sept. 3 at 11:14 p.m. Construction materials were stolen when a building site near The Canyons resort was allegedly burglarized Sept. 4 at 8:46 a.m. A Pinebrook woman told a dispatcher someone had slashed a tire on her Hummer on Sept. 4 at 9:27 a.m. A 23-year-old man was injured while riding an all-terrain-vehicle in South Summit on Sept. 4 at 12:36 p.m. On Sept. 4, a grass fire bumed roughly an eighth of an acre of land on Interstate 80 when sparks from a passing vehicle likely started on fire in the median near Coalville. The Eastern Summit County Planning Commission instead unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the transmission/distribution system, which begins in Oakley, to be built in fields west of downtown. "The idea of this transmission line going right down Main Street (in Kamas) was not favorable to anybody, particularly in that corridor, and skirting around to the west was the preferred route," Summit County planner Don Sargent said. The new transmission line will help reduce power interruptions in the Kamas Valley by creating a looped power system, according to Sargent, who expects construction to begin next April. "Supposedly, the power goes It takes money ^ ^ t o make money. WE SUGGEST INVESTING WISELY. % out a lot. but it really doesn't," Bemis said. The line travels along S.R. 32 as it leaves Oakley before deviating east of Kamas, Sargent said. Crews will reportedly replace the existing 45-foot poles in the area with transmission and distribution lines that are 70 feet high. Plans to construct a combination of wooden and metal power poles on Main Street irked Kamas citizens in 2003 because officials needed to remove several 150-year-old trees in the city to make room for the project.
