The facility will house the North American headquarters for Rossigno!, as well as various functions of the company's existing snow brands including Quiksilver, Roxy, DC, Lib Tech and Gnu. The new headquarters in the Wasatch Mountains will bring together winter sports merchandising, product line management, sales and marketing, snowboard design, team management and customer service, previously located in multiple locations, into one central site with approximately 65 employees. Park City's bond rating upgraded Moody's Investors Service announced that it has upgraded Park City's underlying general obligation bond rating from Aa3 to Aa2, affecting approximately $20.1 million in outstanding debt. The bonds are secured by the City's unlimited property tax pledge. The upgrade to Aa2 reflects the City's continued tax base growth, resilient tourism-based economy, stable and healthy financial operations, above-average wealth indices, and favorable debt profile. Governor Launches Youth Jobs Initiative Governor Jon Huntsman issued a call to action Wednesday to the businesses of Utah to hire, mentor and enable youth to work in today's expanding economy. The program, "Connecting Utah's Youth to Utah's Economy," is tied to the Department of Workforce Services youth programs, aiming the focus on at-risk and disadvantaged youth. The Governor challenged Utah businesses to open 1,000 jobs to youth by June 21, the first day of summer. He aJso announced a job hotline for businesses to call: (888) 920-WORK. Jess Reid Real Estate hires two new agents Jess Reid Real Estate hired two new agents, Terry Sidford and Jessica Allen. They have joined the firm as licensed sales associates specializing in primary and residential real estate sales. Originally from southern California, Sidford has a background in medical sales and marketing. Sidford, originally from California, is a mother of two boys who are active in tennis, soccer and snowboarding. Sidford will be working with her husband Matthew Sidford, also with Jess Reid for eight years named top sales person of 2001 and 2005. Originally from Salt Lake City, Allen has a background in hotel management and has worked for hotels in the area, such at Sifver King and Chateaux at Silver Lake and has been active in the Park City Area Lodging Association. If it wasn't for the sign change, they might not notice at all. On May 31, Diamond Rental purchased Wasatch Rental for an undisclosed amount, and the new owners almost immediately switched the signs at both the Heber City and Park City stores. "Although we tried to make the change immediately, there is always a transition stage," said Clawson. "I think one thing that will be a little different is we probably cater to homeowners a little bit more than they did, but we're going to continue to cater to contractors as much as ever. We really try to be a full-service company." The Salt Lake City based Diamond Rental initially opened its doors in 1979, but changed hands to an investment group headed by Clawson in 2000. "We didn't expand a ton right away, but we did have an acquisition in 2000, then we added a store in Ogden in 2001 and expanded to Park City in 2002," Clawson said. Internships abound for interested college students Park CHy businesses host several student interns each semester By SKYLER B£LL Of the Record staff For many students, finding and completing an internship is the worst experience of their collegiate career. All the good ones are too hard to get, and the ones leftover are full-time, unpaid and don't have opportunities to be hired afterward. Then there's Park City. Interns in Park City spend their days among the mountains, getting paid to work in their specific field with the chance to advance to a full-time position once they're done. With three ski resorts and myriad other small businesses. Park City plays host to interns by the handful, especially during summer and winter semesters. Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons all employ interns in a variety of disciplines. "We have an internship coordinator in the human resources office and her job is to see if we can match up folks who are looking for an internship with a position here that best suits their area of study," said*Kim Mayhew, Director of Human Resources at Deer Valley. "We don't create positions for them. They're working in a real position earning a real wage." Deer Valley has had interns from all ovefthe United States, including recent interns from Vermont, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Florida, California, Colorado and, of course, Utah. Interested interns are matched with a department at the resort depending on their specific area of study. Students studying early childhood development can work in the children's center, while a resort management major could work next to the people in charge of the entire resort. Deer Valley has also had interns in park, recreation and tourism, recreation management, and general hospitality management. The internships are generally full-time jobs, paid as seasonal employees. At PCMR, interns are paid similarly to Deer Valley, but tend to be part-time, although full-time positions are available. Angela Eckstein, Communication and Training Coordinator at Brigh^m Young University, said BYU has sent interns to work in several different Park CiCy businesses, including at the resorts, museums, television stations and physical therapy clinics. "We have some providers that the law school interacts with," she said, "We've also had students work in plant and animal science, recreation management, youth leadership, exercise sciences, history, business management, communications and nursing. And that's probably not an all-encompassing list, either." Representatives from the University of Utah reported similar internship placements. "All of our internships are handled by individual departments, but there are general requirements," Eckstein said. "It must be applicable to the student's specific field of study and be at a high level, where you'd have to have schooling or a degree." "It also gives us a chance to meet some great employees and train them for a position in hopes they want to stay with the company." Much like the other resorts, The Canyons uses interns both during the summer and winter seasons as paid employees.
