A vintage marriage The sign on the vintage 1947 Pontiac in the driveway said "Very Married." And indeed, as the bride and groom made their way down the driveway to pose in front of the car, one could admire the bridal gown, slightly yellowed satin from the '50s, as being the original worn by this bride of 25 years, Shirley Smith. Husband Rocky was not in his original white jacket but a close look-alike. More than 150 friends and family members gathered Sunday afternoon at the home of Lu and Myron Niesley for a silver wedding anniversary party for the Smiths. A huge centerpiece with silver ribbons and silver balloons was the gift of Tina Lewis. A singing telegram, delivered b;r Eastern East-ern Onion complete with monkey, came from friends of the couple in California. And as an exotic touch, Park City's own belly-dancing troupe, Arabian Daze, performed. per-formed. Music for the party was carefully provided by George Ricker and Jan Govednik of KPCW fame. Numerous guests brought fancy snacks to share. And champagne corks flew from guests who brought bottles of bubbly. Over in a side pit came the roasting of the lamb, specially prepared for the occasion. Out-of-town friends who were on hand to congratulate congratu-late the couple included. Laurie Sussman (the former Laurie Tisch) and Donald Sussman from New York, Marion Litner of California, Gaby and Harry Moyer from Cedar City, and Monika Kaufer, also from California. Califor-nia. Visiting family members on hand included the couple's cou-ple's son, Eric, in from Olympia, Washington, Rock-y's Rock-y's sister, Marilyn Butler of California and his brother Dale Smith from Washing- . ton. Rocky's parents, Torrey and Lucille Smith flew: in from Everrett, Washington for the celebration. 1 The stormy weather :did little to dampen the spirits of the Park City guests. Bob Toy and Jackie Craigle, Nancy McComb, Laura Thomas, Bob and Irene Ziegler, and Hal and Judy Taylor were all there with their good wishes. The couple leaves this week for a trip to France and Greece and will return-' to Park City in late September, |
