The community has truly developed the "Big Red" fever! It's fun and has a definite positive effect on our students, athletes and school system which we feel are state champions. We encourage everyone to join in the fun and support for our Park City Miners. Miners Booster Club Clearing up county budget Editor: Reference is made to your article in the September 25 edition of the Record dealing with the Summit County budget. Your article states that the projected 1987 Sheriff's department budget is $924,002. To clarify the matter, please be advised that this figure is not strictly for operation of the Sheriff's department. depart-ment. It includes items which are related by nature to law enforcement enforce-ment but which are not included in the Sheriff's department per se. For example, in 1986 over $100,000 of the budget figure is attributable to the vehicular lease program paybacks and the Jeep Patrol and nearly $400,000 results from the operation of the jail, communication center and animal control. Strictly speaking, the budget for the Sheriff's department depart-ment in 1986 was $542,790, which includes in-cludes $76,700 in vehicular lease paybacks. The 1987 projected budget is similar in magnitude and distribution. distribu-tion. Mary Elcy, chairperson lor the committee to re-elect Fred Eley Summit County Sheriff is this 1984?' Editor: Our "Park City Connection", KPCW, has done it again attempted attemp-ted to silence another long time volunteer and occasional critic. In my letter to the editor last week on the subject of music censorship I didn't mention that I have been a classical D.J. on Friday nights for about a year and a half. I was informed in-formed on Friday that I would no longer be allowed on the air. Apparently Ap-parently my criticism of station policy was the subject of a staff meeting and someone (?) decided that I could not be trusted with a microphone. Note that I've never said a negative word on the air about the station or its policies. What a shame that our "volunteer voice" has no stomach in real life for public differences of opinion. Opinions only in private? Who are you kidding? That brought me to the conclusion that the reason for my termination was indeed punishment. "Oh, well" he says with a shrug of his shoulders Then again, what's next? Thought crime?? Sorry, I know 1984 is behind us but must our perspective be relative to the size of the community? communi-ty? I think there is a difference between bet-ween "offensive" material and music that one wouldn't spend money on. Maybe that is the crux of the biscuit. Possibly a donation accompanying ac-companying would get respect rather than argument. I find it terribly ter-ribly disappointing that an entity that purports to be open minded is in fact no such animal. Like the fabled "Emperor with no Clothes", loyal people just don't talk about what they see. Or "it should be kept in house". Finally, a personal note. Mr. Fuelner and Ms. Cassidy, have you been embarrassed? Or is it threatened? And by what? A fact or an idea? You've got the ball, don't drop it. I'd like to publicly thank the Park Record for providing this forum for opinions that may or may not be popular. Rick Christoffersen Thanks from food bankers Editor: The Daily Bread Food Bank committee com-mittee would like to recognize and express our sincere thanks to the following people ,for all their efforts and support on behalf of the food bank. John Johnson, the store manager at Alpha Beta and the Alpha Beta employees for allowing us to maintain main-tain a collection cart in the Park City store and for all their support. Dixie Bishop for her talent and time in making up signs for the food bank. Charlie Wintzer for agreeing to pay the heat at the current storage facility located at the Storage Depot. The Park City Ecumenical Council Coun-cil for their spiritual and monetary support. Dr. Jackson for donating shelves. Sena Taylor of the Park Record for writing such a nice article about the food bank. Mark Wickstrom, Randy Carr-ington Carr-ington and Dan McNeil for their support sup-port in the form of their personal time and labor. Jack Johnson of J.J. Johnson & Associates for the use of his xerox machine. And especially all the wonderful people who have elected to share their love with others by giving.... May God Bless All of You, The Food Bank Committee: Linda Hurd, Lisa Kraske, Toni Layton, Jean Price. 'Livelong and prosper' Editor: I'd like to thank Mark Efinger and Jesse Frame, Park City residents and representatives of Pfizer Pharmaceutical Phar-maceutical Company for the generous loan of the Reflotron cholesterol-testing machine during the month of September. The "Love your Heart" cholesterol screening in Park City had a turnout of 250 people who learned about their cholesterol level. It appears that, for the most part, these people had cholesterol levels in the low risk range. Some surprise high levels were found and these people have begun measures to lower their cholesterol. Since it appears that a person's cholesterol evel does not correlate well with body shape or lifestyle, it is extremely important that everyone know their cholesterol level.. Therefore, we will continue to offer cholesterol screening at the Park Ci- 4 ty Medical Center for those who 1 missed this screening month. Live long and prosper! Bruce R.
