Show account of mrs death the following letter was received this week eek by mrs arvina jackson from miss jennie spargo in which the letter div gives an account of 0 the sad and tragic deahl death of her mother halliday Halll day aven avenue oakland california ue november 21 1931 dear lavina I 1 suppose you have 11 already I 1 heard something about mothers moth ers tragic death john says he wrote t to 0 park city but I 1 think from what bat he be says that it was only the fact that she had been killed you are the first one that I 1 sm am writing to the shock has stunned me and ive been in ili ada a daze zefora for a whole week lost last saturday evening november mother went out to see mrs arthur hooper who also used to live in park city she had had a stroke and was quite ill it was raining hard that night but mo mother ther felt she must go to see mrs hooper coming home at dabile walking across the street to transfer from one on street car to another she was struck by a fellow so intoxicated that ile he did rit know what he was doing he dragged her over a hundred feet crashed into a street car before lie stopped poor mamma nere ere sure she never knew what happened to her her skull was fractured or chest crushed practically every bone was broken she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital the inspector told me that he was su sure re death was instantaneous it Is all so horrid I 1 cant believe it Is true it was hard for me to believe it was her she had gained considerably this last year and then the injuries completely changed her of all the people in oakland just why did it have to be her we have a charge of manslaughter against the fellow and the district attorney says we have a cinch case sending a man to san quentin help us death Is too good tor for him I 1 saw him at the corners inquest a man 38 years dissipated bloodshot blood shot eyes goes under an assumed name Is called ross hoss hardy alias ross coo cook and is an ex convict he lies to methin terrible he Is still in jail his bends are arc too high for him to meet he has his preliminary hearing next tuesday the inspector told me he be Is quite sure he will plead guilty we burled buried mother here in oakland last wednesday november in a ve very 3 beautiful cemetery I 1 suppose many people il in park city wonder why we bring her back to park city but she never wanted to go back this last year she was very happy and contented was really enjoying life if you could see sec this house and her beautiful flower garden you could appreciate even more the terrible tragedy of it all in the last year and a halt half since I 1 was here she had bought and fixed up so many things that make a lovely home that very evening she told mrs hooper how well she liked it here now I 1 guess I 1 cant cant tell you how hard it Is to go through anything like this I 1 cant awaken to the facts who would ever think john harvey and I 1 would be mixed up in a a corners inquest and in court visiting lawyers chief ot of polices police inspectors and running down witnesses the funeral was very nice considering we k knew n ew so few people here in oakland 4 ill the pall bearers of park city people were arthur and will hooper frank ryan and charles loggle the other two were friends of mothers here in oakland I 1 was grateful tor for beautiful flowers I 1 am going back to Wl Wi natchee next thursday thanksgiving expect to leave here at in the evening harvey Is work working ng in san francisco and john Is still with the southern I 1 guess it will be some time before everything la Is straightened out I 1 dont know what john plans to do with the house hp he know himself it seems to nice to sell but lovingly yours JENNIE |
