Show Wednesday, October 2, THE 1974 MRK CITY curat Bill Dezell WILDLIFE WATERFOWL OUTLOOK GOOD Utahs waterfowl biologists predict a good hunt this year, especially if mild temperature ' conditions continue to prevail. Division of Wildlife Resources Waterfowl Supervisor A1 Regenthal says, There are a lot of birds here now. The two factors that generally prompt them to move out water and food are adequate this year. Of course, if a northern front comes through the area, the birds will begin to fly south." Regenthal noted good numbers of pintails, greenwing teal and gadwalls are on Utahs marshes, and that redheads and cinnamon teal will be heavy in the bag on opening day, October 5. Pintail numbers are high, as was predicted and reason for the 2 bird bonus on that species. A bag and possession limit of 1 has been set for and two daily, four possession, for Page 7 THE CONDITIONING COLUMN June. A Salt Lake City woman, wife of one of the airplanes occupants, hopes that sportsmen will come across the plane while hunting for blue grouse, elk or deer. The plane was mi a flight from Salt Lake City to Phoenix, Arizona, but failed to check in at the Bryce Canyon check point. Therefore, it is felt that the plane is down somewhere in Utah. Bill, now 30, is a long time Park City area resident currently living in Wanship, Utah. In making the announcement, Willy Schaeffler, Director of the Ski Team Center, stated that Bill will assume his duties in November, coordinating final stages of our Poma Lift construction. During the ski season Bill will be in charge of hill preparation, lift and equipment use and maintenance, and race coordination. Bills ten years of experience in similar activities with the Greater Park City Company are a real plus for the Training Center. Dezell is currently a National Ski Patrolman and a certified avalanche control instructor. In accepting the position, Mr. Dezell stated that ...the challenge was too much to turn down. Im anxious to help make the U.S. Ski Team National Training Center a competitor facility which is always in best of possible competition conditions. The Center will grow and improve in the coming years to give the U.S. a great central training location for development of young skiers as well as being a home for the U.S. Ski Team. New Lift for Center The U.S. Ski Team National Training Center is constructing a high speed Poma Lift to be ready for use early this winter. The new 3,400 foot lift will rise 1,200 verticle feet and service four runs exclusively for racers. In announcing the new lift, Training Center Director Willy Schaeffler stated that ...our new lift will be an example of the latest in lift equipment and engineering technology. The speed will be 838 feet per minute; uphill capacity will be over 700 racers per hour; and the lift will have an eleven degree bend in the uphill line. A racer will now be able to ski a 4,000 foot GS run and return to the top in well under 10 minutes. The same traininjg loop last year would have involved riding two chairlifts and taken over thirty minutes to return to the top. The lift also helps the Park City Resort logistical problems. Now, racers will not regularly have to use the same lifts as recreational skiers. The result should be a safer, more efficient racer training and recreational skiing situation at one of the nations fastest . growing, most complete skiing resorts. The U.S. Ski Team training runs have also been improved with additional contouring this summer, lengthening of the slalom runs, and widening and leveling of the finish area.
