Show Saturday, June IS, &euun 1374 Page 4 Wants Lehmer Out In an admittedly bitter remark, Mr. Price said My main concern now is the removal of Mary Lehmer from office and Clem Hansen as Mayor would be one of the larger farces perpetrated on this town. He related that legally, Mrs. Lehmer should not be allowed to remain on the City Council. He singles out state statues and which deal with determination of place of residence and change of residence. Mr. Price contends that Mrs. Lehmer lives in Salt Lake City and works in Clearfield, Utah, and therefore does not possess the prerequisites needed to serve as Park City Councilman. Marys decency and conscience as a lawyer and a Council Member should have dictated her resignation when she moved to Salt Lake City. However, I have never noticed any decency or conscience in Mary. I feel the Council and myself reneged in our obligations to remove Mary from office. Im as guilty as anyone. One reason for his desire for her removal, Mr. Price said is that he worked five to seven days a week as Mayor and Mary would come up to Park City once or twice a week and sabotage everything Id done. He remarked that Mrs. Lehmer is very effective in making facts appear to be hearsay and hearsay appear to be facts. 10-6-- 28 GPCC Concerning GPCC, Mr. Price remarked, My experience with Greater Park City Company is that theyre the only honest people we have dealt with. Its the City that doesnt stick to their word. Mary has acquired a personal hatred for Warren King and the Company. Its obvious that she is not voting in the public interest, shes voting against GPCC. Its a hatred which is basically unfounded. GPCC has more than lived up to every agreement they have made. Mary has not accomplished one productive thing since I have been Mayor. She was appointed to head the city ordinance revision committee, which was formed in early January, and has yet to make one revision. well-profess- 20-2-14(- 8) Possible Legal Suits Mr. Price emphasized that in his estimation, through its inaction and failure to honor its commitments, the City Council has left itself open to legal suits. He further commented that he cannot operate the way the City operates with a clear conscience. ed Last Straw What Mr. Price termed the straw that broke the camels back was Mrs. Lehmer s cancelling of a special meeting which he had called last Thursday. I called a meeting and Mary called it off. He claims she managed this by persuading council members not to attend. Mr. Price said pressing matters such as the signing of the Main Street Special Improvement District Contract, which has been put off for two weeks, the building permit contract which has languished for six weeks, and the public transportation franchise which has been pending for three weeks necessitated the special meeting. Recommendations When asked, Mr. Price gave some recommendations which he feels would benefit the City. I think Mary Lehmer is the major problem confronted by the City Council. I recommend that John Strand or Bumis Watts be placed on the City Council and that Jan Wilking be appointed Mayor in that he is the only council member who knows Roberts Rules of Order, was elected to the Council, and has knowledge of city government. I also feel the City has to make sure the water programs are carried through or the town will have roughly half enough water to supply itself by next winter. The recreation program has to be worked on from the funding end and the Snyderville Basin project must be completed and im- plemented. I also feel the City Council has been grossly negligent in supporting its employees and this situation must be remedied. Final My decision to resign is final and I will not reconsider, Mr. said. Its been building up for a long time. Price Successor Mr. Price was of the opinion that Councilman Hansen considers himself a prime candidate for the now vacant mayorship. Clem thinks hes a shoe-i- n for mayor because hes a Republican and Im labeled as a Republican. The absurdity of that argument is that there are two Republicans versus three Democrats on the Council. The logical conclusion is that the City Council will choose a Democrat. My support came from the Democrats, not from Clem and Mary. Clem should not be appointed Mayor on those political grounds or on the basis of the Republican Partys $16 commitment made to me during the last election. Its hard to tell whos a Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Apology I would like to apologize to the people of Park City for doing a very selfish thing and taking the easy way out. I didnt live up to the things I said Id do but I feel I gave every possible thing I could while I had the job. Im not placing the blame on anyone but myself, Ive been in jolitics a long time. I have excuses but thats all they are, excuses. Not Leaving Contrary to rumors circulating throughout town, Mr. Price does not intend to leave Park City. He does plan to take a vacation, attend to a bleeding ulcer, and help see through some important City matters with which he has been closely involved. |
