Rules and regulations are the framework of municipal government machinery and the actions of public officials are the motors which drive the gears. Its true that you cant please everyone but, at times, our local elected politicos must feel they cant please anyone. The main problem is the cant you make an exception syndrome which seems to infect many persons who stand to gain financially from a favorable City Council or Planning Commission ruling. City ordinances have everyones support until they hit home. Residents call for strict enforcement until it becomes convenient to bend, break, or ignore die law. Why not erect something more in tune with the flavor of our town? Perhaps he feels the Planning Commission functions only to supervise tne new people in town and that his longevity in the area exempts him from the Commissions jurisdiction. The City Council and the Planning Commission are trying to do a job. The myriad of problems which are spawned by a growing community are awesome. Our elected officials are placed in office because the majority of citizens feel they will act in the best interests of the dty as a whole. But it often happens that a decision adverse to the interests of an individual signals the start of a diligent search for loopholes and the rattling of legal threats. This is not meant to be a generalization because most of our citizens are willing to abide by the decisions handed down by government. Unfortunately, there will always exist those persons who fail to recognize the need for community welfare to supercede private interests. Mr. Nielsen and Mr. Mawhinney seem to fall into the socially unaware category. The suit filed by Mr. Nielsen is either a fermenting bunch of sour grapes or an attempt to intimidate the City Council. If grapes are the case, we feel they will soon be peeled. If intimidation is the purpose, the suit appears to have elicited more chuckling than trembling. Mr. Nielsen charges, among other allegations, that the Greater Park City Company was responsible for the election of Mayor Price and Councilman Wilking. If true, GPCC must be controlling the minds and hearts of the Park City electorate as well as all the land and condominiums as alleged. Now, we grant Mr. Nielsen that GPCC is the largest corporate entity within the dty limits, but we doubt that it has reached Big Brother proportions. Mr. Nielsens Orwellian incantations are hard to swallow. The opinion of the Planning Commission must also be hard to swallow because Mr. Mawhinney was unable to digest it. The Commissions distaste for plastic signs is equaled only by Mr. Mawhinney distate for the Commission. The automobile dealers contention that his sign is legal could be valid, but his priorities are misplaced.
