Student Interns at Brigham Young University Uni-versity and the UtahAssociation for Marriage and Family Therapy are making it possible for you to tell your spouse you care by scheduling a valentine's Day marriage check-up. The check-up, which is free of charge, works on the same principle as an annual physical check-up. It is designed to recognize the strengths in a relationship as well as some potential problem areas. Its purpose is early recognition recog-nition of "soft spots" in the relationship rela-tionship in order to prevent problems prob-lems from developing to the point that they will seriously damage the marriage. The program is being offered state-wide in selected cities for the first time. Three other states, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, Okla-homa, have offered it in recent years with great success. The check-up consists of completing com-pleting a brief questionnaire and a 20-30 minute assessment session ses-sion with Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Interns at the Comprehensive Clinic, Brigham Young University, Ninth East and Birch. It's offered on February Febru-ary 8 through 19th. However, we are closed February 15"1 for Presidents' Day. The questionnaire allows the therapist to quickly identify 10 areas of a marriage relationship: marital satisfaction, personality issues, communication, conflict resolution, financial manage taught school in Lindon for several sev-eral years. Beth's formal musical training train-ing consisted often piano lessons ment, leisure activities, sexual relations, children and marriage, family and friends, equalitarian roles, and religious orientation. The Couple Feedback Form, which the couple receives after completing the questionnaire, helps the partners to talk about their relationship, evaluate them, and introduce some changes before the difficulties become unmanageable. The free marriage check-up is an attempt to reduce the high incidence of divorce in Utah. Many divorces are unnecessary. All marriages are at times a bit stressed. Couples often are not aware of the degree of stress un- -til the marriage reaches a breaking break-ing point The check-up can serve as a notice to the couple that their relationship needs attention. atten-tion. But it may also be helpful to those whose relationships are satisfying and stable. Relationships Relation-ships go through developmental stages. At the current stage the relationship may be strong, but as the couple enters a new stage the partners experience a de-, de-, mand for readjustment It is at this point that they may need to look at their strengths in order to use them as resources for the new stage. The check-up helps them be more aware of their strengths. Persons who wish to give each other the Valentine gift of a marriage mar-riage check-up may call 378-7759 and ask for an appointment for a free marriage check-up. from Beulah Norton.
