Show i SI LUCY OLIPHANT Lucy Oliphant Lucy Druceal Toone Oliphant, 78, a resident of Orem for nearly 50 years, died Monday, March 5, 1984 at Utah Valley Hospital of pneumonia. She was born August 31, 1905, in Salt Lake City. She married Elgin Oliphant Sept. 24, 1924 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died July 8, 1982. She is survived by 10 living children: "T" Lawrence Oliphant, Orem; Mrs. Leon (Nada) Oliphant Davies, Mapleton; Roland Elgin Oliphant, Pleasant Grove; Nc man Hnnrv Olinhant. Tavlorsville: Mrs. Dan (Virginia) 0. Peterson. Benicia, : Calif.; Robert Toone Oliphant,' Sugar City, Idaho; Mrs. Duane (Larona) Oliphant Mellville, Fillmore; Mrs. Cloyd (Geneal) Oliphant Stott, Bynun, Mont.; Mrs. LeGrande (Lucy) Oliphant Bullock, Riverton; Mrs. Alan (Gayle) Oliphant Sutton, Orem. A son, Clyde Dart Oliphant, preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1983. Also survived by 88 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Teryl Squires Toone, and George Washington Toone of Salt Lake City; a sister: Mrs. Alvin (Electa) Smith Toone Monson of American Fork. Funeral services will be held in the Orem 12th Ward Chapel, 1450 S. 800 E on Thursday, March 8, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills. There will be a viewing Wednesday Wed-nesday evening at the Olpin-Sundberg Mortuary, 495 S. State, Orem, from 7-8 7-8 p.m. Eva Lowe Eva A. Brooks Lowe, 67, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Orem, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 1984, in Phoenix of cancer. She was born April 19, 1916, in Montrose, Colo., to E. D. and Helen Gibson Brooks. She married Dell James Lowe, March 12, 1937, in Jerome, Idaho. He died July 2, 1968. She was educated in Jerome, Idaho, schools and graduated from Jerome High School. She was a member mem-ber of the First Christian Church in Jerome. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to the Provo-Orem Provo-Orem area. She moved to Phoenix six months ago. . Survivors include one son and one daughter: Milton W. Lowe of Queen Creek. Ariz.; Mrs. Rodney (Connie) Carter of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; grand-children; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters: Frank Brooks of Mesa, Ariz.; Kenneth Brooks and Marilyn Brooks, both of Jerome, Idaho; Malcolm Brooks and Mrs. Don' (Doris) Oliver, both of California; Mrs. Wilbur (Eunice) DeMoss of Hansen, Idaho; Mrs. Grant (Vivian) Darling of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Jerry (Pat) Cooley of Twin Falls, Idaho. . u i Graveside services were held last Tuesday in the Timpanogos Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Orem. Archie Benson Archie Claire Benson, 62, of Ioka, died Thursday, March 1, 1984, in Orem. . He was the brother of Kenneth L. Benson of Orem. Services and burial were held Monday in Orderville, under the direction direc-tion of Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab. Frances Otto Frances Anna Loren Otto, 78, of Orem, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1984, at a Provo hospital. She was born April 12, 1905, in Cambridge, Minn, to Hans and Anna Anderson Loren. She married George I Ott, May 9, 1925, in Cambridge, Minn. He died Dec. 9, 1983. She was a member of the! Presbyterian Church. Survivors in clude twol daughters and a I son: Mrs. Irene " Jensen of PI. Grove; Robert George Otto and Mrs. Harold (Delia May) Lee, both of Minneapolis, Min-neapolis, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Services and burial were held Thursday at Forest Lake, Minn. Margaret Bardsley Margaret Gough Sanford Bard-' sley, 74, of Payson, died Monday, Feb. 27, 1984 at Utah Valley Regional Meducal Center. She was the mother of Mrs. Weston (Leola) Cordner, and Mrs. Melvin (Elaine) Twitchell, both of Orem. Services were held Friday in Payson with burial in Payson City Cemetery. Emil Bamgartner Emil Bamgartner, 86 of Orem, died at his home, Thursday, March 1, 1984, following a short illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1897, in Bid, Switzerland to Stephen and Rozina Biedermann Baum- gartner. He married Loretta Eliza Jessop, May 4, 1923, in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized solem-nized in the Logan LDS Temple. He immigrated im-migrated to the United States when he was four years old and first settled in Providence. Following his marriage, he and his wife moved to McGill, Nev., where he worked for Kennecott Copper Company for 18 years, in i944 the family moved to Provo and then to their present home in Orem in 1948. He worked at Geneva Steel for 21 years until his retirement in 1965. He also worked in farming and took many honors in the Garden Show in McGill, Nev., and the Utah County Fair. He received an Orem City beautification award. He was a member of the LDS Church and was a High Priest in the Orem 51st Ward at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife of Orem; one son and one daughter: Lee Emil Bamgartner and Mrs. Angus (LulaBelle) Blackham, both of Orem; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: Ernest Loosli of Providence; Mrs. Jed (Bertha) Ritchie of Millville, and Mrs. Evan (Flora) DeSpain of Ely, Nev. Services were held Monday in Orem. Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery. Charles L. Johnson Charles Lenard Johnson, 94, of Lehi, died Friday, March 2, 1984 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was the father of Helen Owens of Orem. Services were held Tuesday in Lehi with burial in the Lehi City Cemetery. Arthur Elmer Arthur L. Elmer, 78. formerly of Payson, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1984 in a St. George hospital after a short illness. He was the brother of E. Leon Elmer and Edith Kay, both of Orem. Linda Ashment Linda Toro Ashment, 66, of Orem, died Thursday, March 1, 1984, at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Provo. She was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Moorecroft, Wyo., to John and Alvina Wasil Toro. She married Arvil D. Ashment, Aug. 30, 1939, in Sun dance, Wyo. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was raised f and educated in I Wyoming andl graduated from' high school at4 the age of 16. She was awarded a lifetime scholarship at the University of Wyoming. She was employed as department secretary for the Physics Department at the university for 11 years. She lived in many areas of Wyoming and spent most of her life in Laramie and Basin before moving to Orem in 1980. She joined the LDS Church in 1939 and had served in all the auxiliaries, of stake boards and as stake Primary president. She lived in the Orem 76th Ward at the time of her death. Survivors include her husband of Orem; three sons and one daughter: Jon A. Ashment of Las Vegas, Nev.; Arvil L. Ashment of Columbus, Neb.; Edward H. Ashment of Cedar Fort; Mrs. Lynn (Dee) Applegate of Orem; 13 grandchildren; four brothers and one sister: Andrew Toro of Syracuse, N.Y.; Carl Toro of Colton, Calif.; John Toro of Selma, Calif.; Alma Toro of Mesa, Ariz.; Dail Toro of Tucson, Ariz. Florence Hansen Florence Riding Hansen, 63, of Orem, died Friday, March 2, 1984 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of a lingering illness. She was born May 10, 1920 in-Provo in-Provo to William Henry and Susannah Clark Riding. She married Klven N. Hansen on Oct. 21, 1943 in Provo. The marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. She received her education in I Provo City Schools and graduated from-Provo from-Provo High School. After she completed her education, she moved to California for a short time, then returned to Utah. Following her marriage she and her husband made their first home in California for more than 35 years; living in San Francisco and Fremont.' They returned to Utah about 2 'a years ago, making their home in Orem. She was an active member of the LDS Church, Orem 17th Ward. She had served in the Relief Society presidency and as Primary president, stake missionary, Sundiy School teacher, homemaking teacher and visiting teacher for 30 years. She was also an active member of the PTA in California. Survivors include her husband; one son and one daughter: David N. 'Hansen, Orem; Mrs. Jeran (Linda R.I Bingham, Kaysville; two grandchildren; grand-children; and one half-brother, Albert Cox, Anaheim, Calif. Services were held Tuesday in Provo. "Larry" Johnson, 72, South Fork, Provo Canyon, died Monday, Mon-day, March 5, 1984 at Utah Valley Hospital after a long illness. He was born Dec. 23, 1911, at Marley, Idaho to Lawrence 1. and Sarah Findlay Johnson. He married Delma Golding on Sept. 19, 1932 at Provo. Johnson moved to Provo when he was 10 years old and received his education in the Provo schools, graduating from Provo High School. He had worked at Geneva Steel in the Production Planning Dept. for 33 years and retired in 1973. He was a member of the LDS Church, Kdgemont 19th Ward. He was a member of M'OK 849. lie also was an avid sports participant receiving many awards and trophies in bowling, trap shooting, fishing, swimming, golfing, and show hunting dogs. He is survived by his wife of South l;ork I'rovo Canyon; two sons, two daughters: Larry (J. Johnson, Orem; Murray Q. Johnson, Vernal; Mary Snell, Spanish Fork; Juanita Hampton, Ham-pton, American Fork. One son, LeRoy Johnson, preceded him in death. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers; Delbert C. Johnson, Salt Lake City and Raymond A. Johnson, Granger. Servirps will h held Friday. School Volunteers Plan Annual Moot "Volunteers and Educators-An Unbeatable Team," is the theme of the annual conference of the Utah School Volunteer Program to be held March 16, 1984, at the Utah Technical College in Orem . The conference, which will be held all day on the campus, will feature workshops addressing Excellence Ex-cellence in Education. UTC Celebrates 'civ' Dining Room A newly remodeled dining room on the Orem campus of Utah Technical College will be officially opened Saturday, March 17, at 7 p.m. with a buffet and entertainment entertain-ment program to be provided by the Baker Family, vocal musicians. "The Hollows" will feature weekly buffets each Saturday evening and will also include various types of entertainment in a dinner-theatre dinner-theatre format.
