I Should Love Again." Tickets will be $3.50 in advance or $4 at Orem-Geneva Times the door. Before the dance an election will be held to chose the most preferred boy from each grade. The Associated Girls Organization includes all girls at Qrem High January 7, 1982 School. The purpose of the club is to make all girls feel welcome and a part ' of the activities at the school. Orem High School Submits dins Scholar dominations Three Receive Management Awards . ' Mark Hathaway, - Orson Dietz, and Boyd Nethercott of Century 21 -Golden West, Inc. have been awarded the , prestigious achievement in management (AIM) award for 1981. The an-imm, an-imm, mums nouncement was made by Century 21 International Headquarters in Irvine, California. The awards recognize the contributions made by Golden West personnel both to the community and within the profession. Since the award is made to a select group of only twenty Century 21 brokers and managers in the five state area of the Ilocky Mountain Region, it represents an even more notable recognition of service to Utah Valley to have three individuals from Golden West, Inc. selected. The Sterling Scholar award is a very presigious one. It is awarded to twelve students who demonstrate demon-strate . scholastic excellence ex-cellence in one of twelve categories. The students nominated then go on to regional and state competition. The competition is based on the following: Scholarship-This is made up on the students grades, test scores, determination and effort. This counts as fifty percent. Leadership-This is measured by the amount of responsibility placed on the student by teachers, administrators, and fellow classmates. This counts as twenty-five percent. Citizenship -. All Sterling Scholars must have demonstrated outstanding, high standards stan-dards of citizenship throughout their high school years. This also counts as twenty-five percent. The students who applied for the award were required to make a resume, create a portfolio, port-folio, and answer a questionnaire that was provided by the sponsors. These were then given to the department advisors of the school in which each particular category fell. The judging was then completed by a board of advisors. The final decision, however, must be approved by the school principal. The nominations for Orem High School are as follows: English -- Kelly Cannon and Sean Cannon. This category follows the creativity of the student in writing and the general usage of the English language. The advisors were unable to choose between the two candidates, but Sean Cannon is the one who will go on to the regional and state competition. Speech-Drama-Scott Pusey. This category involves public speaking, drama, debate, and other forensic events. Mathematics- Kyle VanDeGraaff. This involves in-volves scholarship in math demonstrated by initiative and evidence of potential contributions to mathematical knowledge. Social Science-Jill artistic talent and expression... ex-pression... Vocational Education-Richard Whitehead. Nominated for achievement in work done by himself in the areas of electronics, drafting, and related subjects. Homemaking-Chris Herringer. Achievement in cooking, sewing, home decor, and related aspects of homemaking. Business Education-' Stephanie Jorgensen. Scholarship in shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, accounting and distributive education. Music-Kenneth Rogerson. "'' Mark Hathaway, the father of seven,' and Golden West, Inc.'s president-broker, has rendered community service in many areas since coming to Provo in 1951. He is a proven communicator having been employed by several radio and television stations in Utah, Nevada, and California. He was station manager of KBYU-TV from 1967 to 1973. His awards and recognitions include serving as vice chairman of the Provo Freedom Festival, and recipient of the Abe Lincoln Award as a distinguished broad caster. He was president of the BYU Cougar Club for 1980-81 and is currently an LDS Bishop in Edgemont. For exceptional Orem High Helps Needy Families Board of Plastic Surgery, following a series of rigorous written and oral examinations. He also has Board certification in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. In an unselfish move recently Orem High students gathered together over sixteen cases of canned goods to distribute to needy families in this area. The collection site was the OHS gym where a holiday dance was held. Admission to the gala aiiair was a can of food accompanied by the ever-necessary ever-necessary activity card. The student council divided the food for distribution and asked the assistance of the Orem Chamber of Commerce and local religious groups to issue the goods to deserving families. Orson Dietz, vice president - financial manager and father of six sons and two daughters, has been active in community banking in both Utah and Salt Lake Valleys. He is a graduate of the C-21 Investment Society. He was vice president of Utah Valley Bank and holds certificates of achievement from the American Institute of Banking. Boyd Nethercott is sales manager for Golden West, Inc. and has been a real estate agent for the past five years and is a graduate of International Management School.. He has a vast management and executive background having previously served for 22 years in the U.S. Navy. He was an executive for the CIA, Washington, D.C. for ten years before choosing to retire from government service to live in the Provo, Utah area.
