J f High Priest Group Enjoys Wood Project Recently the High Priest group of the Orem 12th Ward undertook a day of wood cutting as a project. The wood was cut and hauled to the home of Elgin Oliphant, a senior member of the ward. The wood or trees were furnished by H.B. Sumner. The trees that were cut up had to be over 100 years old as the time of their planting could only be guessed at. Utah Power and Light cooperated on the project by letting the huge trees down so they would not damage their power lines when falling. Several truckloads of wood were cut. Those participating in the project were Richard Robins, Laird Billings. Van Swenson, Clyde Strong, Newell Weight Elgin Oliphant, Wesley N. Robertson, Kyle Smith and H.B. Sumner. irsi Security Management Changes Major management changes have been announced an-nounced by First Security liank of Utah, N.A., statewide banking system, according to (ieorge S. Eccles, chairman and chief executive officer of First Security Corporation, parent company of the bank. Klleclive May 1, 1981, Harold .J. Steele will retire as president of First Security Bank of Utah, N.A. At that time, Robert T. Ileiner will become president of the bank and then will be nominated for election to First Security Corporation's Cor-poration's board of directors and executive committee. , Other management changes to take effect on May 1 include the election of Louis A. Harris as executive vice president. L. Gil) Houghton will become senior vice president and supervisor of Salt Lake Division and a member of First Security Bank of Utah's board of directors. Mr. Houghton will be succeeded suc-ceeded as manager of the bank's First South office bv Ronald A. Schulthies. Mr. Steele, who has sewed as president of the bank since 1970, will continue as director of First Security Cor-'Ipoiation Cor-'Ipoiation and as a ' member of its executive 4 board. t Having served in various capacities in the bank. Mr. Steele was elected senior vice president and supervisor of the bank's Salt Lake Division in 1953, where he remained until being elected executive vice president in 1901. Mr. Steele is a graduate of Rice University and received an MRA from the Univeristy of Texas at Austin. A lifelong resident of Ogden. Mr. Heiner began bis career in 1951 as a bookkeeper. He progressed through the ranks and in 1959 was named assistant vice president in charge of operations and personnel for all First Security Ranks in the Ogden area. He was elected vice president in I960 and assumed the position of senior vice president and supervisor of the bank's Northern Division in 1969. At the same time he was elected a director of the bank. In 1979 he was elected executive vice president of the statewide bank. Mr. Ileiner attended 95 sq. yd. s -1 y? He also completed com-pleted the commercial bank management program at Columbia 1 'Diversity. During his career, he has been active in professional banking associations. He is past president and member of the executive committee, Utah Bankers Association, and is past vice president for the state of Utah, American Rankers Association, and served as a member of the organization's governing council. He has devoted much time to community, church and civic work. Positions of responsibility have included president and director of the Greater Ogden Area Chamber of Commerce, and member of the executive exe-cutive committee, Weber County Industrial Rureau. He is presently chairman of the Weber State College Institutional Council and holds memberships in Alta Club, Ogden Golf and Country Club, Salt Lake Country Club and Weber Club. In 1976, Weber State College honored him as the Delta Sigma Pi businessman of the year. Mr. Harris joined the .commercial credit department of First Security in 1955 after graduating from the University of Utah. Progressing through branch management, he became vice president and manager of the bank's First South office in 1971. He was elected . senior vice president and Salt Lake division supervisor in 1976. His professional affiliations include Robert Morris Associates, of which he is a former board member ; Utah Rankers Association, where he held several posts; and past president of the American Institute of Ranking. In 1974, he was recipient of the institute's ('learing House Award. Mr. Houghton joined First Security, as a messenger in 1950. Four months later he advanced to assistant supervisor in the proof department. In 1976 he was named manager of the First South office, a position he retained until his promotion. A graduate of Stevens Henager College, Mr. Houghton is a member of Robert Morris Associates, Bank Administration Ad-ministration Institute and of the Salt Lake Bank Officers Association. Active in the community, com-munity, he is a past chairman of Cottonwood Height's Community Council; past president and director of Kiwanis Club of Sugarhouse; and past director of Bonneville Bon-neville Kiwanis Club. Utah Tech Offers Driving Course Feb. 2 The February driver training course for adults who have never driven before or who do not now have a driver's license will begin Monday, Feb. 2, at Utah Technical College at Provo. Utah law now requires that an approved driver education course be taken before initial issuance" of a driver's license. The Utah Tech course fills this requirement. The course will begin and registration take place at 5:30 that evening in the driver training portion of the College, located just inside the west entrance to the south wing of the College on the Provo Campus. The classes will meet daily 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This will enable completion of classwork by the end of the month. Tuition is $60 for the course, which utilizes the latest and most thorough techniques of driver training, including simulated driving in the electronic - mechanical "Drive-O-Trainers" at the College.
