They will not condition a person if that is all he does. The same holds true for "calisthenics" and weight lifting. Well controlled studies have shown that weight training will not condition the cardiovascular car-diovascular system. This does not minimize the important of strength. Jan. 15-March5WP just doesn't suffice by itself in the physical conditioning process. Women need strength development as much or more, in many cases, than men. They need not fear muscle "bulking" as found in hardworking men weight lifters, because women do not have as much of the male hormone, testosterone, responsible for this physiological phenomenon. Nor will weight lifting make one "muscle bound." Most weight lifters lift-ers are very flexible people, contrary to popular popu-lar belief. Physical conditioning is a highly specific process governed by very definite rules and guidelines. One must remember that activity is a double-edged sword; when you use it correctly it can help in many ways, but when used incorrectly, in-correctly, as is often the case, it can and often does considerable harm. Don't be misguided by the many misconceptions that lurk in the dark corners. nsurance 225-2900 PAYS0N 465-3283 State -Orem 104 1 It |
