Show 'Bill of Rights' For Working Men Lauded By Solon BY SENATOR WALLACE F. BENNETT The Senate this week passed ar. extremely mild bill putting controls on union welfare and pension funds. Before passing the bill, it defeated 12 Republican Republi-can amendments, most of them ffered by Sen. William F. Knowland. I voted for every one of the "Bill of Rights" amendments, which I believe represent sound, sensibile legislation, and which would correct some of the corrupt cor-rupt practices uncovered by the MeClellan Committee. The amendments included such things as: 1. Requiring election of union officers by secret ballot every 4 years. 2. Requiring unions to admit to membership on the same terms all employees it seeks to represent; 3. Eliminating the "work permit" per-mit" system, under which unions collect dues without giv. Ing membership rights; 4. Protecting local unions against abuse by international "trusteeships." 5. Prohibiting the filing false Information by a union.
