Show OREM-GENEVA TIMES THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1947 A BIRTHD4Y PARTY FOR A KING Br CLYDE E. WEEKS. Sr. j I didn't receive an invitation to the recent wedding wed-ding of Princess Elizabeth and I felt a little badly at the time for being left out, however, something has since happened to compensate for it and now I feel very much alright. I received something much more interesting and valuable to me. I received an invitation to attend a BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR A KING not any ordinary king but the KING OF KINGS. It will be a rather unusual party in many respects, because the honored personage was born 1,947 years ago. He was crucified and died some 33 years later yet He still lives. You see, He was resurrected and now resides with God, His Father. Everyone Invited The commemoration of His birth will be a grand affair; there will be millions upon millions of invited guests of all tongues and nations. There will be no problem of transportation to tne party because everyone can attend without traveling, for reason that the magnitude of the celebration makes it necessary to utilize the whole universe for the party. No one needs to have a baby tender in order to attend. The sick and disabled will be able to be present in their beds and wheel chairs. Little folks are especially invited, because He was always very fond of them and often times pleaded that we "suffer the little children to come unto Him." There will be no curb on the joy and laughter of children on this day, for reverent gaiety and fun will be the rule and it will be (encouraged among both the old and the young. Beautiful Music There will be a lot of splendid music at the party hymns of joy, praise, glad tidings and thanksgiving; carols, songs of praise, cradle hymns and all of the fine spiritual expressions of a reverent people paying homage to their King. Church bells will ring, choirs will sing, chapels will be open, pageants and plays will be presented, present-ed, and people will kneel and pray. It is all a part of the entertainment and everyone will have an opportunity to participate, if only in a song and a silent prayer. This is to be a special party to honor and commemorate com-memorate the birth of a little babe who was born in the little town of Bethlehem of Judea, many years ago. This little child was not born in the grandeur and splendor befitting a King. In fact his mother didn't even have shelter, except that supplied by a kind innkeeper who allowed her to spend that epochial night in a stable which also housed his cattle. Precious Gifts On the advent of his birth, wise men traveled great distances on camels to bring unto Him precious gifts of jewels, frankincense and myrrh, and to acknowledge Him as their King. These gifts are no longer needed by this Great One. However, each one attending this party is asked to bring gifts not tangible ones, or ones of intrinsic value, but rather gifts of the spirit, reverent adoration for the honored guest, grateful grate-ful hearts for the occasion and its significance, and love and friendship for all of our fellow guests. Every guest is expected to check all oi his hates, avariciousness, and all manner of ill feelings feel-ings at the threshold, and there don a cloak of peace, goodwill, and friendliness towards, all: Charity and love will provide spiritual food for, the occasion. I i The place of meeting, the universe, will be garlanded gar-landed with flowers symbolic of the occasion; the evergreen, suggesting everlasting life; the holly and mistletoe which have come to be associated with love; and the gorgeous poinsettia and orchids of the tropics. Each section of the universe will display its own festive dress. Although countless numbers will attend tKS party, the honored guest will not be present in person. However, His spirit will be manifest and He will receive the testimonial with joy. Tokens of the party in the form of joy and happiness will be tendered each guest as a remembrance re-membrance of the occasion. Whi is this party for a King? It will be neld on December 25th, the anniversary of His birth. Although the celebration ends the same day, the spirit of the occasion will continue tliroughout the year. Grr.zrr.zr.U en Glcnt Yub Trea Who Is The King? Who is this great personage, who has earned such love and devotion as to cause all people of the Christian world to pause and do him honor? He is known to all Christian peoples as Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He was and is the greatest personality in human hu-man history the most outstanding success. He was no scholar. He never received a degree, yet he was the greatest teacher of all time. He posses sed the unlimited knowledge and power of God, At the age of 33 he had fulfilled the greatest mis sion ever undertaken by any man. He knew all things. He advanced a philosophy of living which revolutionized human thought and conduct which has endured through the centuries, and the ideas he expressed over 1900 years ago offer the only solution to the overwhelming problems confront ing this troubled world today. The problems of today are very much the same problems as they were then, and the solutions are exactly the same. Sermon On The Mount unce wnen questioned by nis followers con cerning the troubles that were harrassing them as a people, Jesus went up into a mountain and his disciples came unto Him and He taught them the rules of life and the method of living which Would bring them peace, happiness, joy, health, and all of the good things of life- This discourse as recorded in the 5th to 7th chapters of Matthew in the Holy Bible, is now and always has been the only true guide to moral living and the enrichment en-richment of the human soul. It has stood throughout through-out the ages and its truths are eternal. The sol ution to all of the ills of the world and a map to the pathway to happy living are contained in this short address. I commend it to your study and evaluation. On these premises the problems of the United Nations Assembly, the starvation of Europe and other devestated areas of the world, tne outlawing of war, the restoration of peace and the stabilization of our economy and sfan dards of better living can all be solved. One Solution The crux of the whole matter may be summed up in one statement made by the King of Kings. It was his advice to a certain lawyer, who posed the question, "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself." This is the spirit of Christmas Peace on earth, good will toward all men. When men have learned learn-ed and have put into practice this simple lesson they will have achieved happiness. f I f 1 '- P.
