Utah County Aeent. Alfalfa which is cut while heavily infested with weevils, often fails to green up for a week or two. Heavy infestat ions of weevil larvae may hold back the second growth hay for four or five weeks. This would with the weevil damage caused to' the first crop, represent approximately ap-proximately the loss of one cut ting of hay in extreme cases. Early cutting of the alfalfa followed when necessary by brush dragging; or dusting very short alfalfa with four pounds of 50 percent calcium arsenate to the acre followed by cutting in 10 to 14 days, are the control con-trol methods recommended for use on forage alfalfa by the college entomologists (Dr. George Geor-ge Knowlton, USAC). DDT, Chlordane or toraphane should be applied to alfalfa intended for seed, never to forage alfalfa, alf-alfa, entomologist Knowlton emphasized- Mr. and Mrs. Oliver M.
