"T.E.A.M." stands for "Together "Togeth-er Everyone Achieves More." In keeping with the theme, a "tailgate party" was held to kick off the new school year. A school spirit song, "Northridge "North-ridge Nighthawks," written by Northridge music teacher Al Huish, was revised and reintroduced rein-troduced to the studentbody. Tuesdays are "Team Tuesday," Tues-day," and students are encouraged encour-aged to wear their school team shirts. Teachers and administrators adminis-trators have special "coach" shirts to wear. First grade Lexi Beck, Noah Simmons, teacher, said he is excited about the program because of the fundraising elements. The sponsors can have an online presence for as little as $20 per month, and we get over 50 of the revenue for our band," he said. Students who do participate re There are ways to keep your children from using any alcohol. They all start with you. Research shows parental disapproval is the number one reason kids choose not to drink. So set clear rules and expectations on no alcohol use. It is Timpanogos's first time doing their conferences like this, and the administration and teachers teach-ers are very excited. Students on the other hand are unsure of whether or not these conferences will work. Some say that their parents won't come anyway. (Xhers say that they would rather watch channel one than work on their portfolio. What we work on during channel one is everything from writing a letter of gratitude and progress to putting in exceptional ex-ceptional assignments in our collection. Each teacher will tell students what they think should be put in the portfolio, and students stu-dents get to choose what they think should be in there. I think the conferences could go either way, good or bad, it ceive a ticket for a prize drawing, draw-ing, and competitions are held to recognize the classes with the most students who walk. Department ol Alcohok: all depends on the student and parent. If the student really takes time to put the portfolio together it could show their progress to not only their parents, but to themselves. Another An-other good part of the portfolio is the letter of appreciation towards to-wards the parent. I think teens are so grateful for their parents par-ents except they rarely seize the opportunity to show it. If parents would take the time to come to the school and look at all that their student has prepared I think they could really get an insight into their lives. There is also time for parents par-ents to talk to any teachers that they feel they need to. If parents and students are already actively part of each other's life, then conferences can still be helpful, just not as needed. I encourage parents to be a bigger part of their child's life. Check powerschool, find out about friends. Ask them about why their grades are less than perfect before you let the low grade upset you, sometimes it's just a small misunderstanding. mis-understanding. Anyway, mark your calendars calen-dars because these student lead conferences could be worth going to. Volunteers needed Orchard Or-chard is in need of volunteers to help with its reading tutoring tu-toring program. Volunteers should be able to come on a twice-weekly schedule, from 8:30 to 9 a.m., or 2:15 to 2:45 p.m., usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
