She was selected Grand Prize Winner in both the Utah Viola Festival in 2003 and Nach-tmusik's Nach-tmusik's Young Artist Festival in 2005. Pianist Verina Chen, 12, will play the first movement of W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto in A Major. Chen began piano lessons with Dr. Irene Peery 1 ox three years ago. She won first prize at the Utah State Piano Competition in August 2005 and earned a perfect score in the I n ore Concerto Compe-tit Compe-tit ion Violinist Caitlin MacKay, 15, will play the first movement of iJmitri Kabalevsky's Violin Concerto in C Major. MacKay began studying violin at age 4 and currently studies with Lois Stout. Violinist Erica Shirts, 17, will perform the first movement of I-dward Lalo's Symphonie I-.spagnole. Shirts has been playing play-ing violin since age 5 and currently cur-rently studies with Gerald Elias. Bentley began studying piano with her mother at age 3 and started her formal piano training at age 6. Currently a student of Amanda Nixon, she earned a first -place win in the 13-15 division of the Encore Keyboard Competition in 2004. Pianist John Sargeant, 15, will play the first movement of Sergei Rachmoninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Sargeant has studied piano since age 6, spending the last five years studying with Professor Pro-fessor Gary Amano of Utah State University. John has won first place in many piano com-pethioas, com-pethioas, including the elementary elemen-tary division of the 2002 Utah State Fair Music Competition and the high school division of the USU Piano Festival Competition. Compe-tition. French horn player Matthew L Castillo, 17, will perform the third movement of Richard Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1. Castillo began studying the horn at age 12 and currently studies with Stephen Kostyniak. He has performed as a soloist solo-ist twice with the Utah Valley Symphony and won first place in the Utah State Fair Music Competition in 2003.
