For Blake Allen, i Book of Mormon Tours in Orem, Allen has visited Mexico and Central American more than 120 times, starting when he was 10 years old. He accompanied his father Joseph Allen, who founded the business more than 35 years ago on tours, served an IDS mission in Chile and has taken aJJ six of his children on tours. "It's a fascinating learning experience," Allen said. "We go to archeological sites and talk about why we think the Book of Mormon took place there." Tours visit various proposed sites of the Book of Mormon while tracing the history of the Nephites and Lamanites beginning begin-ning in Guatemala City. Archeological sites include ruins of several ancient civilizations civiliza-tions such as the Aztec, Maya and Olmec peoples. Depending on the Length of the tour, Allen arranges visits to different IDS temples along the route, and they invariably meet missionaries as well Despite the spiritual emphasis of the tours, many non-LDS travelers enjoy the experience. "We also talk about the history, his-tory, culture and lifestyles of the people," Allen said. "It's an experience that everyone ought to have." At the same time, each tour is still a luxurious vacation, with deluxe hotels, luxury air-conditioned bases, trained guides and professional drivers. Internal flights are included in the tour price as well as a number of meals. "We make it as painless as possible for someone to go on a tour and have a wonderful time," Allen said. Tours are available for 10-21 days. Shorter tours visit a wide variety of skes, while the longer journeys overlap destinations Tell Your You're Proud! Tours do operate year round, with groups accommodating from 20-40 travelers. It is best to make reservations reserva-tions early, usually about six , months in advance. Allen advocates group tours for a number of reasons. Larger groups are naturally safer, and meeting new people is part of the experience. "Groups give you the opportunity oppor-tunity to make new friends," he said. Allen personally leads 12-15 group tours each year, and his younger brother, Todd Allen, does the same. Many participants have been on the tour before but keep returning re-turning because they learn new things on each trip. "We have people say they'll never read the Book of Mormon Mor-mon with the same eyes again," Allen said. "When you can put a people and faces to it, it really makes a difference."
