We alv took and traiTsrnbed shorthand. In addition, addi-tion, we took courses in general gwernmenf the hisTory and econrnmncs of the U.S. My friend and 1 were sure we would be sent fo California, we were v gorjd. Neit.hf.T of us had been there Wore But the Navy needed us in Washington. D C. and so w e went, and we VA-ed it . I became a secretary in the legal depfculment of the Navy's foreau of Aeronaut its. AB my bosvss were lawyers, mostly from Wall Street m Nw York City, Most were f rom Yale, Tah one was from Harvard. The Yale graduates used to give the Harvard Har-vard man a bad time about his "inferior education." After about two months, one of the lawyers asked me if I would in particular do his work. Bel ore he went into the service, his address was 1 Wall Street, New York Ory. I thought that interesting. What a wonderful pervjn. The of fice I worked in was by the reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Wash-ington Monument. There were Navy buildings all around the reflecting pool, but years later, afl rh temporary buildings were 'ikenout. My work consisted of typing contract for Navy airplanes and i:.yr!ar.-e parts with all the dif fer-er.t fer-er.t companies that designed and worked on airplanes. We were very buvy.
