Times August 28, 1075 fo)fi)r Orem High School football players have a score to settle with the neighboring Pleasant Grove Vikings who edged the Tigers, 6-0, in a frustrating game last year thatcurrent seniors are quite likely to remember. The Tigers travel to Pleasant Grove tomorrow afternoon for a 5 p.m. contest on the Vikings' gridiron, The Junior Varsity game is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant Grove, while the Sophomores play at Orem High at 11 a.m. Saturday. The public is invited to all the games. Coach Tom Molen is being assisted this year by Dick Gilder, Gil-der, Mike Bailey, and Lani Haacke on the Varsity squad. Bailey and Haacke are handling the JV team. Coaching the Sophomores Sopho-mores are Mick Peterson, Dave Mascaro, and Bob Lewis. 'Pleasant Grove goes' after Orem as if it were a state championship cham-pionship game," Coach Molen lamented la-mented after recalling the game last year. -"However, it may have harmed them last year because they let down after beating us (apparently feeling that the season was over) and didn't make the 3-A playoffs." Orem went on to win the tough Region Four title, then lost in the first round of play-offs against eventual champion East. The game will be a tough opener for the Tigers since last year the Vikings claimed to have the best sophomore team in the past 15 years. Paul Gillespie, former for-mer Orem High athlete, coaches the Vikings and is ably assisted by Darold Henry, wrestling coach. The Tigers have had stiff workouts work-outs all week in preparation for the tough game tomorrow. Although Al-though Coach Molen did not have a starting lineup at press time, he did list the following as potential po-tential starters: Rick Leetham pushing for starter at both split end and free safety; has excellent speed hi v"fv v 1 vV j : ? While that team slipped to the worst Weber State season inhis-tory inhis-tory and the school's only losing season the talent returning is excellent. Four starters from last year's team will don the purple pur-ple and white this winter, and the top two scorers ami rebounders from last season will be back. Top Wildcat returnee is Jimmie Watts, a senior who has already earned three letters at the school. P-j will be joined by Al DeWiic, and a pair of starting guards in John Freed and Kirt Huber who performed well last season as sophomores. Paul Marigney and Dick Hun-saker Hun-saker also are among the letter let-ter men returning from last year. Something new at Weber State this vear is the coaching staff. So stated Stars' head coach Tom Nissalke with the announcement announce-ment Tuesday that Del Harris, a highly respected and most successful collegiate head mentor, men-tor, had been appointed as assistant assis-tant coach for the Stars. In a related move, Howard Adams, who has been with the Stars the past four years, will become full-time full-time director of player personnel, person-nel, also assisting general manager mana-ger Bill Orwig with front-office front-office duties. 'As a strong advocate of a three-man staff, I really feel we are in good shape now, said Nissalk, "I believe it is impossible impos-sible for an assistant coach to be a scout also, so with the appointment of Del, thatfrees Howard to become a leader in an area he already has done quite well in." The new Stars' assistant coach is a native of Indiana and graduated grad-uated with honors from Milligan College. He taught history and psychology for five years before coaching for nine seasons at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. " " -"--' 1 YOU CAN NUMBER 1 IN SKIING! VE UP TO 65 BUR!!!
