Astin Cope Jr. of Spanish Fork has announced his candidacy candid-acy for reelection to the office of Utah County assessor on the Republican Re-publican ticket. Mr. Cope has served as assessor since 1946. He reports that during his administration adminis-tration of the county office the procedure has been streamlined streamlin-ed and new ta billing and accounting ac-counting systems have been installed. in-stalled. , Mr. Cope saw. active duty in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during dur-ing World War II and is a member mem-ber of the American Legion. He has been affiliated with the VFW, the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis club. He was graduated from BYHS and attended BYU from 1936 to 1936 to 1938. H received the d'stinsulshed service key award in 1946 from the Spanish Fork Jayeee organization and is now a member of a special committee commit-tee en heavy construction equipment equip-ment of the National Association of Assessing Officers. Meals are served daily in the dining room seating 200. Products of manufacturers and distributors participating in the institute program pro-gram are demonstrated in the meals. Diners include students and groups of women from Parent-Teacher Parent-Teacher Associations, hospital auxiliaries aux-iliaries and similar clubs. Clubs sell tickets for a luncheon to their members and keep the money, since the institute serves the meals free. There are demonstration talks on food products, films on growing and processing of foods and advice on good cooking methods all presented pre-sented in the reception room and home-craft center of the institute. "Students and visitors are shown the best methods of producing well-cooked well-cooked foods, both for volume business busi-ness and on a small scale," Miss Eonfield said. "They even are taught how to make good coffee, a fundamental often lacking in some high-class restaurants." Learn hy " Demonstration Classes in general groceries selling sell-ing are held thiee times a week at $5 for a complete course. Students learn by actual demonstration how a food store, should be laid out and how to promote merchandising campaigns. Classes also include work in personnel training, advertising adver-tising and promotion, store arrangement, arrange-ment, neighborhood analysis and salesmanship. Fresh produce' classes are free, jointly snonsored by the institute, the U. S. lepartment of agriculture agricul-ture anil ti e United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable association. They teach the best way to prepare, pre-pare, trim, display, price and care for fresh fruits and vegetables. A class in either groceries or produce has a limit of 15 persons each. This is so each can be given individual attention. Miss Bonficld noted, since the classes are run on a "learn-by-doing" basis. Evening classes are planned in financial and lesal problems, nonfood non-food departments and frozen foods and dairy products departments.
