Show THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER I, 1953 OREM-GENEVA TIMES Diane Dixon Sets Wedding Date Announcement was made this week of fthe engagement of Miss Diane Dixon, formerly of Orem, who will marry John Henry Tempest III. Diane is the daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Dixon of Salt Lake City. Mr. Tempest is the son of Mr. and lira. John H. Tempest Jr., also of Salt Lake City. An announcement party was given by a group of friends, Including In-cluding Mrs. J. Erval Christen-en, Christen-en, Mrs. Don R. Ferguson, Mrs. Tloyd W. Millett, Mrs. R. Thornton Thorn-ton Snow and Mrs. M. Howard Graham, The affair was held at Hie Graham home. The couple will be married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept, 18. A wedding breakfast will be held at the Tempest home and a garden reception at the Dixon home will honor the pair on the evening of their wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gruwell and son, Tommy, visited over the weekend with the R. Phil Shum-way Shum-way and H. K. Moon families from their home in Burlely, Idaho. SHARON STAKE HIGH COUNCIL HEARS RETURNED MISSIONARY Dwaine Anderson, who recently recent-ly returned from the Japanese LDS Mission, reported on his missionary work at a meeting of the Sharon Stake presidency and high council on Sunday morning. Mr. Anderson spent two years in Japan where he served as counselor coun-selor to the mission president and was in charge of records in the mission. He had an opportu ity to visit all 25 branches of the mission and reports that the 200 servicemen in the area are financing fin-ancing 17 local missionaries. Mrs. Anderson met her husband in Hawaii on his return from Japan. They visited the leper colony while in the Islands. Mrs.' Lynn Beck is in a Salt Lake hospital for treatments. Each family group is to bbrng their own lunch, to be eaten at 6:30 p.m. The ward will furnish drinks. Each organization of the ward will participate on the pro gram which is slated for 8 p.m. General chairmen for the affair are Richard W. Robins and Har old B. Sumner. The Children's Friend drive is now in progress. The meeting will be held at Park's Cafe. Theme of the meetng will be "Women in Defense." Mary E. Jones is chairman of arrangements for the meeting. Bertha Park is cb-chairman. Mr. Walker will be introduced by George McKinney. Musical numbers num-bers will be presented during the dinner hour. Boyd Beagley left Wednesday Wednes-day to return to his duties with the army after visiting here for three weeks with relatives and freinds. He will now be stationed at Sacramento, where his wife, the former Betty Hodgkinson, expects ex-pects to join him. Orem Women's Club Holds Opening Social Attractive program booklets in club colors of cerise and silver were distributed to approximately approximate-ly 40 Orem Women's Club mem bers at their Opening Garden Party held at Scera fireplace patio Wednesday afternoon. Club officers were hostesses on this gala occasion. Mrs. Neldon Marshall, president, presided over a short program which preceeded games played under the direction of Mrs. Jack Cameron and Mrs. Raymond Willoughby. , The program included commun ity singing led by Mrs. Robert Blaylock; litany, read by Mrs. Raymond Gilligan; financial re port by Mrs. Roland Tidd; and an explanation of the year's pro gram by Mrs. James Kirkman, program chairman. Patricia Jones Wins Honors as Outstanding Cadet Second Lt. Patricia M. Jones (Patche), Orem Civil Air Patrol Cadet was honored as the out standing girl cadet at a recent summer encampment. She is the daughter of Mrs. Mary E. Jones. Miss Jones,, along wth Cora Lu Nielson of Orem and 11 other girl CAP cadets and 43 boy cadets were at Mountain Home Air Force Base for the nine day encamp-men, encamp-men, and were under regular air force regulations. After processing, proces-sing, "Patche" was assigned Flight Leader of the girls. The cadets went through Inspection, In-spection, classes, drills, tours of the base, enjoyed swimming and attended a USO show. At graduation exercises each cadet was ssued a certificate of accomplishment, and the outstanding out-standing girl and boy cadet received re-ceived a gift. Architect. SHARON STAKE SUNDAY SCHOOL PLANS MUSIC FESTIVAL A Music Festival will be pres ented by the Sharon Stake Sunday School on Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Scera auditorium. Thomas Biggs will be in charge of the festival and has been working with Sunday School groups for the past six months in preparation for the event.
