With the trend to circular skirU here's a trick for a nicely and neatly finished hemline. The fullness at the top of hems in circular or gored skirts can and should be shrunk out in most rayon and silk materials in order to make a smooth hem. For best results, after basting the first turn inch from the lower edge, run a line of lengthened machine Stitching near the upper edge. Pull up one thread of this stitching as needed to shape the hem to tho skirt Next place a piece of heavy wrapping paper, to prevent marking right side of skirt, between the hem and skirt and shrink out the fullness. Trim hem an even width and finish with seam binding or by catch stitching. Those Important Seams The general rule in stitching seams is to stitch from the wide part to the narrow part; shoulder seams from neck to armseye, underarm seams from armseye to waistline and sleeves from armseye to wrist Skirt seams are stitched from hem to waist. It is important to stitch all seams in a skirt and all corresponding correspond-ing seams in other parts in the same manner to prevent possible twist-in? twist-in? of the garment Pleats are stitched from the bottom or loose end toward the top, but darts should be stitched from the seam edge toward the point to insure a gradually tapered point Home-Sewn Beach Fashion One way to cut vacation expenses is to make your own bathing suit. Choose a cotton print that flatters your coloring, accent it with bands and hrfiter of plain fabric in one of the tones of the print The circular skirt of this two-piece suit has a zipper closing and ties at the waistline with a bow worn either in back or at one side. The bra top has a three-button closing. If you would like a direction leaflet for making this BATHING SUIT (size 12), just send a stamped, self-addressed self-addressed envelope to the Needlework Department of this paper and ask for Leaflet No. E-2593. vj mm u V .m . 1 tea f - "? 4 fills- .J I. -U ' f f . lit t w i 1! n ? - v. v ; 5 ? v - i j .
