Letters to the Editor Resident Says Thanks for Giving Blood Many thanks to all who showed up to donate blood November 12 at St. Florence Church in Huntsville. If there is fun to be had at a blood drive, we succeeded! Great food, music, and support were given as we waited in line to donate. Everyone had a smile on their face, lots of joking was going around, and a worthwhile end was the result. For those who missed out on the “fun” evening, we will be dong this again in May. We would love to see “repeat visitors,” as well as new faces. Maybe we’ll have a “bring a friend” blood drive. “I’ll go if you go!” Anyway, thanks again to everyone who made this community effort so successful. Cynthia Beck Eden NORDIC cont. from page 1 about 25 to 30 residents taking advantage of the program in the Nordic Valley area. Fuel Reduction Community Committee member Toni Bair of Nordic Valley states that the work that has been completed so far has been, “ . . . a bsolutely wonderful. We just need a lot more of it. I can only do so much good by reducing dead and dry fuel material around my own home. To achieve maximum benefit in an aggressive bench fire, we need the entire neighborhood involved and participating.” Bair stated that three dump truck loads of chipped material were recently removed from his neighborhood. He also stated that Nordic Valley residents will also benefit from newly installed fire hydrants that have finally brought the community up to code in this regard. For more information on how to participate in this National Fuel Reduction Program, contact the Weber Fire District office at 782-3580. CERT cont. from page 1 to act as backup for any disaster incident. “The first line in any emergency is the professional firefighters, police, and trained emergency personnel. But should there be a need, we are ready to help out,” Millet said. Having served for over two years, the Team would like to thank the following: Chuck Millet, Team Leader Linda Spencer, Asst. Team Leader Darla Weston, Huntsville Area Captain Connie Judd, Liberty Area Captain Tom Halliday, Eden Area Captain Thanks also go to the numerous CERT committees for their untiring efforts. Newly Installed Officers Brad Nelson, Team Leader Darla Weston, Asst. Team Leader T.B.A., Huntsville Area Captain Connie Judd, Liberty Area Captain Chuck Millet, Eden Area Captain County Reports Readiness At the last CERT Meeting at the Weber County Library in Huntsville, Detective Gary Worthen, of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, reported on the extent of readiness for the Olympic Games in 2002. Detective Worthen stated that there will be County, State and Federal protection at the upcoming Games. Back up from out of state will also be present. A fully trained, alert force will be obvious, controling and averting any attempt to disrupt the Games or cause an incident. The safety of all participants, spectators and residents is their primary concern. Worthen requested that all citizens help out by providing additional “alert eyes.” “During the Games, please watch for any out-of-place or unusual behavior in your neighborhood prior to, or during the Games. Should you observe any suspicious activity or suspicious people, please report this to the County Sheriff’s Office immediately. All calls will be responded to.” Your Ogden Valley CERT Team stands ready to help out, if needed, during the Olympics. Family Groups Organized When serious trouble hits, it comes down to neighbors helping neighbors. Ogden Valley has been organized into nine Districts by the CERT Teams. Each District, when fully set up, will have every family in the Valley organized into a Group of five to seven families. Brad Nelson, the newly appointed Team Leader, reports that his goal is to have every family in an organized, functioning Group before the 2002 Games. Emergency Procedure Booklets are printed and ready for distribution to each family. Eden ‘A’ District Meeting Called The Eden “A” District has scheduled an organization meeting for all family heads on Thursday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m. District Leader Maureen Peterson has offered her home, located at 1965 N. 5700 E. in Eden, for the meeting.
