I admit it. I'm a control freak. And fall is the best time of year for control freaks where gardening is concerned. Now I can finally tame that pumpkin vine that tried to take over the garden and threatened my truck. It’s nothing but a limp, soggy mess now but putting it in the compost heap really gives me a feeling of, la blossoms I managed to harvest and dry can go in lotions as well, or into a lovely hair rinse recipe I’m dying to try. Chamomile! What a wonderful plant! Not only does it smell like sweet fall apples, it makes a great soothing tea for colicky children (and nervous mothers as well). I can never have enough sage. We use that all winter in a tea with garlic and cayenne to ward off colds and flu. It’s essential for sore throat gargles as well. Everyone has heard about echinecia now-a-days and for a good reason. It works well, being back in control. I o hope the neighbors aren’t watching when I nod my head in satisfaction and say, “So there!” Not that everything goes into the compost heap. Specializing in herbs in my little garden means that I have a lot of material for another area in life I feel I need to control. Health! Now that every other commercial on T.V. shows miserable, sniffling people waiting wonderfully to help the immune system get going. I’m going to try harvesting the leaf and roots of some I’ve grown and make tinctures. I make many kinds of time to start to work on healthier alternatives to what they have to offer. The comfrey that is sprawling all over my sidewalk will be chopped up and infused with oil and then mixed with beeswax to make a wonderful healing salve. It can be used for bruises or sore muscles, just rub tqup‘Of ycfl +a vgwsansfyu; T = ,, - T e, One full head of garlic, peeled and sliced. One handful fresh sage leaves, washed and chopped.
