Show Volume XXV Issue XIV The Ogden Valley news Page 7 August 15, 2019 Announcements Obituaries Gerald Boyd Taggart (Jerry) March 25, 1935 ~ July 30, 2019 Gerald Boyd Taggart (Jerry) passed through the veil peacefully July 30, 2019 at home, surrounded by his family. Jerry was March 25, 1935 to Gerald Taggart born Ray H. and LaVon Pickett Taggart. He was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1953. Following high school, he spent the summer as a smoke jumper in the McCall, Idaho area, increasing his love for the outdoors. Jerry married his high school sweetheart Sheryl Jensen September 17, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. He went on to get his engineering degree at the University of Utah. He worked as a professional engineer for 52 years with many accolades for projects he designed. Later in life, he enjoyed building log homes with his sons. Jerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many positions in the church over the years, including a counselor in the bishopric of the Eden First Ward. Jerry had three great loves in his life: First, his wife of 64 years who he adored and loved dearly and always put her first. His second love was his family; he and Sheryl had four Laura Mae Williams Sparks August 16, 1932~- August 5, 2019 Laura Mae Williams Sparks passed away peacefully August 5, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Mesa, Arizona. Laura was born August 16, 1932 in South Dakota. She married the love of her life, Raymond Edward Sparks, September 14, 1950. In 1966 they started the Star Route Garage in Huntsville together. Laura was never afraid children: Kim (Lorn) Vincent, Scott (Kathy) Taggart, Kelly Bruen, and Jeff Taggart (Mary Bogue). He was their rock, and supported them in everything they did. Dad and mom built their dream home in Eden in 1973, and continued to raise their family there. They loved the beauty of the valley and enjoyed their years living there. Jerry was blessed with, and loved dearly, his 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He found much joy in being with his family, and was always there for them at all times and loved each of them unconditionally. His third love was for flying. He received his pilots’ license in August of 1965, and enjoyed flying the company Cessna around the country for business, as well as taking his family on fun vacations across the country. Jerry is survived by his sweetheart, Sheryl; his children and grandchildren; and sister Cheryl Tenbrink of Hidden Lake, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law Dean and Marilyn Taggart; his brother Glen Taggart; and his inlaws Lee and Ellen Jensen. Dad’s children want to express their appreciation for their mother who tenderly, lovingly took care of dad for the last seven months, showing her true love and dedication to him and being an example to us all. Funeral Services were conducted by Leavitt’s Mortuary Sunday, August 4, 2019. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park. She ran the tow trucks and worked on cars right alongside her husband, and knew more about cars than a lot of men. She made sure everyone was taken care of, whether they be a customer, friend, or family member. She taught her daughters and granddaughters to be strong, independent women who knew the value of working hard; and taught her son and grandsons to find happiness with one of these kind of women. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, and her daughter, Cindy. Laura is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Keith); son Ray (Katie); and daughter Kathy; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She will be missed tremendously by many family and friends, but will live on in our hearts forever! OGDE N Robert “Bob” Ellsworth Schwab Robert “Bob” Ellsworth Schwab, 84, passed away July 26, 2019 at his home next to the Allegheny River in Tidioute, PA, surrounded by family. His connection Robert Schwab to the Eden area started in 2001 when his family— son Bruce and daughter-in-law Rachel (Lyter) Schwab—were stationed at Hill AFB. It was during his family visits to northern Utah back then, that he fell in love with Ogden Valley. He would eventually purchase a condominium at Moose Hollow, where he vacationed and enjoyed all the Valley had to offer. He especially enjoyed the Balloon Festival. He would also be associated, for a short time, with John Lewis of Lewis Homes Inc., as John expanded Joseph Marion Dillman August 4, 1943 ~ August 4, 2019 Joseph Dillman passed away August 4, 2019, at the age of 76, at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden, Utah. He was born August 4, 1943 in Elfrida Joseph Dillman Southeastern Arizona to Lorin Ivins Dillman and Cynthia Maria Schnebly. He moved to New Mexico at the age of three years and was short enough to walk under the kitchen table. He started school in Farmington, New Mexico. He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of ten where he loved playing in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. He moved again to South Salt Lake City, and attended Libby Edwards Elementary and Evergreen Jr. High. His mother passed away when he was 16. His family moved to Ogden, Utah where he attended Ogden High School for one year. Then he moved again and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Costa Mesa, Calif. Upon his return, he went to work as a warehouse man for Defense Depot Ogden where he received many awards for his excellent work during his employment. He married Verna Irene Ogden February 11, 1970 in the Logan Temple. They had two VA L L E Y, the Moose Hollow condominium/townhome complex. Robert had always dreamed of having a place “out West,” and Eden was his slice of that dream. Robert is survived by his lovely wife Nancy (Schall), to include 4 sons/daughters-in-laws, and 13 grandchildren: Scott/Jacqui (Everett) with Christopher and Ryan of Westbrook, ME; Kirk/Maureen (Roethlein) with Kaleb, Karly and Kiersten of Harmony, PA; Bruce with Kyle, Abbey, Nathan, and Annabelle of Eden, UT; and Neil/Rachel (Lyter) with Luke, Samuel, Noah, and Joseph of State College, PA. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home in Warren, PA has been entrusted with Robert’s final arrangements. As a family they enjoyed camping in the canyons. They were members of the Eden 2nd Ward where they served in many callings. They especially enjoyed serving as Nursery Leaders. He was preceded in death by his wife Verna and his daughter Jody. He is survived by his daughter Marianne and her husband Thomas. Joe’s hobbies included camping and fishing. He also liked to go to the swimming pool, and to cook his favorite foods, which were hamburgers and home-made fries, fried chicken, and potato salad. He liked playing games, planting flowers, and the outdoors. When he retired, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching movies (especially westerns with John Wayne, and “How the West Was Won”), and eating popcorn and chocolate ice cream and candy. He loved animals, especially his cat Boots, and Burt cologne and Old Spice. His favorite holidays were Christmas and Valentine’s Day. A celebration of life memorial service will be held August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eden 2nd Ward Chapel, 2900 N. Highway 162, with visitation with family prior to services, between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park, Ogden. Special thanks to his caregivers at Crestwood Care Center.
