Keeping it Local, Fresh, and Fun! OVOM still going strong By Natalie Quinn What a great Open Market season we’ve had so far! And, as the evenings get cooler, so does the Ogden Valley Open Market (OVOM)! Coming up is our What I Want to Be event, taking place August 15. This event is a great opportunity for any youth age 4 years old and up thru 12th grade who are looking at potential career paths. At the event, youth will be able to ask questions of the experts in their speculative field. It’s an enjoyable event for kids and teenagers, and will be held August 15, so mark your calendars! And don’t miss out on the awesome prizes from local businesses that will be pulled from the hat at the end of the night for the participants! In addition to the upcoming event, live music is available to listen to every Open Market night. Performing August 15 is Kelso & McWilliams (facebook.com/KelsoMcWilliamsMusic), who will be sure to have you jamming out to songs all night long—both familiar and not. All of these musicians are a real treat to listen to, and the OVOM is lucky to have such great talent perform at our events! If any Open Market goers have noticed, the decorative spools around the event are being painted! It’s not just any old paint company who is doing the work, though; in fact, it’s not a company at all! The spools are being charitably painted by local artist Jayden Quinn! Jayden (instagram: @ghostigoop) is a 14-yearold commissioned artist who has been drawing most her life and has been branching off into professional work in the past few years. “Working on the spools is such a great opportunity,” Jayden said when asked. “I love being able to help define the vibe of the [Open] Market, and it’s a great way for people to see my art. Exposure is more potent than some people think.” Jayden often has a booth at the OVOM where you can see and buy her original artwork. She also does commissions, which can be acquired through her Instagram page or her email at <tigerlily15237@gmail.com> We hope to see you all at the OVOM, where we keep it local, fresh, and fun!
